So all the playlist complaints are warrented then. I'm not surprised in the slightest to be honest ...

I think they should sack Moyles.

I don't know if it would help them attract that demographic, I just want them to sack Moyles.

I'm within the demographic but I do find myself enjoying Moyles (although I listen to his podcast more than the actual show as it airs ) but I admit that I really don't like it when he gets all shouty and argumentative.

I'm in the demographic and LOVE Radio 1 - I listen to it as much as I can. Chris Moyles is my least favourite DJ but he's still alright.

Can't stand Radio 1... for many reasons. Ageism being just one, this whole "We must be down with the kids" has failed.

"Our aim that Radio 1 focuses more clearly on a young target audience so that its median age is within the target age group is still outstanding, although work is under way to address this issue,”

It's nonsense, just play the best music and stop trying to cut off the older generation.

Well, I listen to Radio 1 often and I can't stand Moyles but after that Fearne, Scott, Greg and then Zane are all brilliant I feel.

I'm 19 and think the playlist on the whole is great, I obviously don't like all of it, but well that would just be my ipod then.

I am within that demographic too. My favourite DJ is Scott Mills and Greg, I only really tune in for their shows.

Well I am just outside the age group ( in my early 50s) and I have been listening since the very start. I often laugh out loud listening to Chris in the morning and really like Greg and Scott . Compared to Heart, it is brilliant.

they ignore too much pop music, its this desperation to be down with the kids which is actually backfiring!! what other reasons would they ignore international popstars like jennifer lopez for example? if she not ''hip'' enough anymore because shes reached 40 years old?

they play more music which appeals to my dad for heavens sake.

some DJ's are also past there sell by date. I think people like Chris Moyles appeal to everyone, but then theres the likes of Edith boman, who im afraid is really starting to show her age.

I think they're quite out of touch with people my age (20) tbh. I've been hearing people saying "YOLO" like once every few minutes, literally, for the past few months now. Yet Radio 1 have probably only played the song 2 or 3 times during daytime hours. I do wonder if the people that work there have a clue about youth culture tbh.

They do play a lot of adult-contemporary music really. They probably share half their playlist with Heart FM, so I'm not surprised most people that listen to the station are over 30.

That said, I do like the station a lot, and I do think they try very hard, and are very good with certain aspects. I love Radio 1Xtra especially.

YOLO means "you only live once" or rather, "I'm a disgusting excuse of a human being."

I no longer listen to Radio 1. I started listening to Radio 2 because they had a better variety of music. The Radio 1 playlist is made up of who their management prefer rather than what they think the listeners actually want to hear. I hope the Trusts announcement leads to an overhaul of the station. Starting with Moyles being let go.

I only like Moyles and Mills - and the podcast is enough for me.

The fact you don't know it is a good thing

I find Radio 1 really irritating! The DJs seem really smug and up themselves.

The young teen generation are the first generation have grown up in the age of the internet (by that I mean Broadband internet, not the dial-up stuff us old 20/30-somethings had that took a week to download 1 MP3!) they are too young to remember life without the iPod, they have hundreds of TV channels to watch, thousands of Youtube videos and so on and so forth.

Listening to Radio and sitting through loads of songs you don't like is an alien concept to the 15 year olds of this world, so it is no wonder that Radio1's listener base is getting older.

If Radio1 persist on trying to make it 'young' they risk alienating the older listeners too and their listener base will decline.

While I accept that Radio1 has always gone with the music 'trend' at any point in time, their misguided attempts at being 'young' in the last 2 years has been a joke. They have ignored massive songs like 'Moves Like Jagger' simply because Maroon5 and Christina Aguilera are knocking-on a bit (in pop music terms) and are seen as a bit '2003/2004' when really it should be the strength of a song that determines the playlist.

I also feel there is far too much 'chatter' I can drive all the way to work and not hear one song on Chris Moyles, Sara Cox is another who can drone on and on about nothing... IMO Radio1 should use the fact they have no adverts as an advantage over their commercial rivals and pack more songs in.

Scott Mills is imo their only mainstream presenter who has the charisma to carry the 'chat-heavy' nature of Radio 1.

Greg James, whilst undoubtedly a nice guy is rather bland and just a cardboard cut-out of what is perceived (by some) as a 'cool youth', but who really doesn't have a clue.

I only listen to R1 in the car if I've forgotten my iPod, and I think it's okay. I like about 50-60% of the playlist, the DJs tend to be funny and, best of all, there's no adverts. The evenings are the best though for music.

The one thing I'd wish they'd drop, however, is bloody Newsbeat. It's totally, utterly pointless. If you want actual news, then it gives you no information at all - it's all just so vague and serves no purpose. I know they're not going to go into indepth news like R4 or something, but it's like they try too hard to make news "cool" or something, and it comes across as a bit pathetic, like it's all some 45 year-old media-type person's idea of "young". And it eats into my driving home from work time.

I used to listen to radio 1 all the time now I listen to Capital. OK so I know that it is repetitive but it is the sort of music that appeals to me and now Radio 1 has gone bleh for me.

Im the same age nd it depends on the DJ i think for the most part they get it right often enough it just needs some tweaking.
