Use the radio1 brand to put together a real weekend music festival which is moved around each year.
Also give appropriate set slot times to each act. IE the foo fighters given an hour a couple of years ago is a complete joke!
the tv coverage always seems to have rubbish crowds! There always standing still and not really appreciatiing the music as much as festivals should be by jumping around and going nuts!”

The reason they stand still is that they are filming the set on their smartphones, and loading it straight away onto Youtube.

id jump into them on purpose then!
I hate boring crowds especially when you see the acts giving it their all- especially rock bands whos songs suit jumping around too.
Its also the demographic- half the people at the hackney weekend are only going because its in their area so they applied.

Jay-Z will be having a 'guest' on stage with him, one of the girls teased on the show just now.

My vote is on Kanye.

Will be immense if it is.

If it's Queen B though, will be even better.

He might as well go all out, get Kanye, Beyoncé and Rihanna up there. Definite show stealer.

Rihanna is there for tommorow's night set, and Jay-Z is on tour with Kanye, so I think its highly likely all 3 will do 'Run This Town'

To be fair I think previous headliners haven't been on til 9:30, its just the BBC fooling the viewers by making the EPG say it starts at 9 each time and making them sit through an hour of Fearne Cotton and co

Brilliant so far.

What's with the 30 year old Gary Numan stage set design?

Why is he headline anyway? After the disaster at Glastonbury you would think festivals would know by now not to have some crappy tuneless hip hop at the centre of attention.

It's been huge tune after huge tune so far!

Have to agree, I am not a huge hip-hop fan, and am only familiar with Jay-Z's biggest hits (in particular his more commerical collaborations) but this has been superb so far. He has just belted out hit after hit with no pause or filler.

I saw him live 2 weeks ago and he is absolutely brilliant. So jealous I'm not there tonight, like someone said he's on fire.

I'm so jealous you saw Watch the Throne.

The whole ticket release passed me by and before I knew it I couldn't get hold of tickets!

That Bonnie and Clyde was epic, was waiting on B though!

99 problems is always a highlight.

:sleep::yawn:

I see an idiot on stage talking down a mic and making hand gestures with a backing track belted out the PA.

Is that the one where Noel Gallagher pissed him off so he performed a remix of Wonderwall?

How was that a failure though? Obviously hip hop fans are less likely to attend festivals, and the people that organize them are surely aware of that.

Glastonbury only just sold-out, and didn't sell out weeks/months in advance as usual, which Glastonbury later admitted almost led them to bankruptcy.

his set however was universally acclaimed, and i'd go as far as saying it was one of the musical 'moments' of the 00s.

back to the Hackney Weekend: someone needs to turn MIA's mic up!

Sorted now thank god.

This set is easily the best ever from a Radio 1 event.

The crowd was dead, it got bad reviews and it struggled to sell out... there hasn't been any hip hop artist headlining glastonbury since and I can't see it happening again any time soon.

People could either be in Hackney to watch Jay Z... or tomorrow they could see Bruce Springsteen. Bit a no brainer right there.
