Especially the Beyoncé one.

Its a shame noone knows any Jay Z songs so noone can sing a long though isn't it.

#yeahright!

I've already said it, but it's been even better since I said it, this is by a million miles, the best set by anyone at any of these Radio 1 live events. Jay Z has just bested Gaga and Madonna.

But Hip Hop isn't good enough to headline

Watching Kasabian on the red button playing Hackney Marshes is very strange to me who grew up next to it. All I know is I wouldn't like to be coming out of there afterwards looking to sample some of the local culture.

So jealous of everyone there....I wonder why Beyonce didn't join them on stage?

That was a big song, yes, but as an Alicia Keys song, not a Jay Z song. I bet you 99% of people will be able to sing along to the Alicia Keys bit, the Jay Z parts are just generic forgettable rent a rapper nonsense that nobody cares about.

Empire State of Mind is NOT an Alicia Keys song; it's a Jay-Z song that she sang the hook for. *facepalm*

No, it was a Jay Z song featuring Alicia Keys who did her own version of it for her album.

Empire State Of Mind is a Jay-Z song featuring Alica Keys.

Alicia Keys later released a version with just her singing, which is maybe where you are getting confused.

I am amazed at the musical ignorance in this thread!

People are entitled to their opinion on music, but people have been making ridiculous statements like 'Jay-Z hasn't hd a hit since he featured on Crazy In Love in 2003' 'Empire State Of Mind is an Alicia Keys song' etc at least check your facts before you start criticising something you obviously know little about!

Empire State of Mind is a Jay-Z song. He asked Alicia Keys to sing the chorus because she's also from New York, and she's able to play the piano well, so could play the song during live performances.

Totally agree! Funny how the song which recieved the biggest crowd response was Paris released last year, not his older songs.

Heres my two cents on this...

Ive seen Jay-Z sub headline at T a few years ago under Kasabian in 2010. The crowd was flattish tbh- the only songs people got going to where the big hits.

Yes he is amazing- the set tonight was top drawer- much better than when I saw him. However I believe that bbc were right to get him to headline in Hackney!

Hackney is an area for making great rap/ r nd b music due to the ethnic demographic there. Hence why they have gone for jay z and then Rhianna.

Other festivals this year however have gone more mainstream. I will rant about T as I believe that this festival has sold out. They have far too many poor acts appearing across the weekend on all stages and poor headline/ sub headline acts across the board.

So at T Headliners are Snow Patrol (not worthy of a headline slot IMO), Stone Roses (mmmm thats where the moneys gone!) and also Kasabian (headline band yes but for T no). Sub headliners are poor too.... Nicki Minaj just makes me feel sick.

Its also kinda sad the act getting the crowd to do circles... if the music was good circles would form naturally! Record was 43 or soemthing at this years download!

Ignorant music snobs strike again after Jayz Glastonbury, then Beyonce's. They couldn't wait to strike back again tonight.

Anyway Jayz was amazing.

This is a post I made earlier this week

Quote:
“My brother and I went to the Jayz and Kanye Watch the Throne concert.

All I can say is I had the best time of my life. I love going to concerts but yesterday's was the most fun of all. I can't tell you enough how good it was. I've never been in a concert where everyone in the arena were going crazy, singing, dancing, jumping, bouncing from start to finish as there were no breaks in the show. It was a full on 2:30 hrs of performances. You wouldn't think hip hop act putting on a SHOW but Jay and Kanye have really elevated the hip hop acts. I woke up today with a sore legs, arms and the rest.”

It's alright if a certain genre of music is not to your taste, but don't be ignorant about it.

I saw Jay Z and Kanye on Thursday night in Sheffield and they were INCREDIBLE. Honestly the best gig I have ever been to in my life. I don't know what will top it...

But Jay (and 'Ye) rocked tonight aswell and the crowd were loving it. He deserved that slot.

Why anybody would want to go a rappers concert is beyond me.”

I'm not a huge fan of hip hop or Jay Z in general, but I look at his Ticketmaster page at the reviews and he has a solid 4.8/5 out of 208 user reviews. Obviously he has a fanbase of people that relish his material
