will JImmy Carr's career suffer now??
Im wondering if his career will suffer now as "tax dodgers" have a very bad reputation in times of recession. Ive noticed there seems to be more anger directed at the rich these days, as they are perceived to not be pulling their weight
I remember Jason Mansford's career going tits up pretty much instantly & I wonder if Jimmy Carr is heading for a downfall, or whether hes too "big" for this to affect him. |

I don't know his stand up work so was wondering if he played the every man on stage? If he does I doubt he could go back to that character. If his comedy is broader then I don't see why not.

Yes. Half his material now is worthless and inapplicable. He's also emerged a a hypocrite having used the same practices he publicly criticised. I think he may have take a sabbatical for it to all die down or he will have to seriously work on a lot of new material. His gig on 10 O Clock Live is surely gone now in light of this news.

If his career does suffer, then it is only fair that the wet blanket known as Gary Barlow, also gets a blow to his career. The majority is bitching over Jimmy Carr as he has upset a few groups with his jokes in the past & now that he has screwed over the taxman, there is outrage but there is hardly any complaints about the wet blanket. Is this because he was part of some poncy boyband or because he has recently been given an OBE

I don't think Jimmy Carr was ever seen as a person who was a stand up (har har possibly as funny as his jokes) guy. I think the people who enjoyed his 'comedy' will still do.
Don't forget - It is perfectly 'acceptable' to avoid tax (so long as you don't evade) but woe betide any poor (ie not rich) person who has stole a few hundred by wrongly claiming benefits* *Please note. I do not think that benefit fraud is acceptable, but slightly more understandable than some guy who is earning £3.3k and evading tax. addendum - I have probably got confused between evade and avoid. Sorry :-S Just switch them round until the right one is right. You know what I meant. |

Quite a few people in the public eye have had their names mentioned over on Yahoo news comments, seems Carr is the tip of the iceberg.
Bruce Forsyth, Schofield,Fiona Bruce and Vermin Kay have been a few of the names alleged to have used or using the tax dodge. |

Word has it that even a few cast members of EastEnders have allegedly been using the dodge according to the comments post on Yahoo news, i expect the BBC WILL make an example of anyone using the dodge.
If true about Ms Bruce then i'm frankly not surprised. |

I think it rests a lot on how he handles 8/10 cats on Friday, looking forward to seeing this episode. I used to really like him but then his annoying laugh got in the way. Do enjoy 8/10 cats though for Sean & John and guests. Jimmy Carr humour is looking down on people IMO, I do find him funny still sometimes but this has tarnished him I reckon. I wonder if David Mitchell is annoyed at him muddying their show, he strikes me as quite passionate about fairness & morality.

He'll be fine. Still a talented comedian. As long as he hasn't done anything illegal he'll be OK.
Cameron is using it as a red herring. A nice distraction. |

He has been throwing his weight behind high profile charity appeals recently, if with one hand he's been telling others to give while taking with the other hand it won't look good.
He might have to make it clear he did not profit from his appearance on Deal or No Deal... Quote:

Is Cameron not bothered by Osbournes offshore £3M trust fund to avoid IHT, then?

Most people have some degree of small dishonesty within them. The problem is perhaps not the tax avoidance but:
* The amount of tax avoidance (reportedly nearly everything) * His previous comments It's like if people nick a few bits of stationery, some things are almost expected. Avoid paying a bit of tax? Sure, that's fine. But to avoid nearly all of it is just taking the micky. |

Breaking News!!
well not really but that's what they said on BBC Breakfast
![]() Jimmy Carr has tweeted apology and said he made error of judgement and is no longer involved with K2 fairplay to him for dealing with it quickly and admitting his wrongs, let's hope some more can be shamed into just paying their taxes like everyone else

Good result
I was going off him but when I heard the whole twitter comment think he has done the exact right thing. Could be a question on 8/10 cats; what % of the nation said they would rather pay more tax than they needed to

I don't think Jimmy's career will suffer that much. He may well have to adjust his act somewhat to remove any relevant gags about rich people, tax and stuff like that for a while, but he should be ok. |

I doubt it will suffer, at least not long term. He will no doubt incorporate it into his act somehow. These days, celebrities can get away with almost anything if they have got the right publicist to spin it in the papers.

Most self employed people who earn decent money, including celebs, will have accountants who will set up investments and arrange their finances in an "efficient" way, which includes keeping an eye on how much tax is paid. Some of those schemes will be the equivalent of taking home a couple of pens and using the work printer to print off your boarding pass. Some of the schemes are the equivalent of taking the computer home. Back to Jimmy, even though I'd say the main blame lies with the accountants, his image will forever be associated with this. It will be hard for him to recover, and I don't think he could go back and do another series of 10 O'Clock Live as it stands. Whether or not his regular live audience or DVD buying one care is hard to say. Some will, but a lot won't. Depending on how he handles it, it will impact on his ability to promote future tours and DVDs. Now that the PM has decided to single him out, he has no choice but to come out fighting, which should make the actual accountants sweat a bit. IMO, they should shouler the burden of blame if they advise their clients on a dodgy deal. |
