is anyone here NOT into elder scrolls and bethesda games?
I will say I have tried. I borrowed a copy of oblivion and I got about 2 hours into it then just got hopelessly bored, I expect the same fate will await me when I try playing skyrim...
before this I tried with other bethesda games and they also eventually bored me before I could reach the end both fallout 3 and new vegas, its a shame because I can see that they are quite good games and well made, they just don't keep my interest though and I tire of them too fast. anyone else feel the same way about their games? |

I've been play RPG like Bethesda games for the last 35ish years, so you might call me a fanboi, but I have been astonished at the huge spectrum of people who loved Skyrim, many of whom have never been engaged by this genre of game before.
What the differance between Skyrim and Oblivion is that has worked so successfully, I really cant tell you. There isnt a geat deal that I can see. Maybe its just marketing, and pre Skyrim, this sort of game was considered Geeky, maybe there is something special about it. The available evidence (sales + lack of whining) suggests that you should try Skyrim, but I cant promise you a revelatory experience. |

Are you playing long stints or just the odd hour here and there?
I've put literally thousands of hours into Bethesda RPGs. Personally I can lose hours walking around discovering locations and picking ingredients. On Oblivion, with my 1st character, I completed the main quest, all of the guild quests and most of the side quests after about 300 hours and still played on for another 150+ hours after that clearing mines/ruins and collecting special weapons and armour. Still not cleared every location I think...? Can't wait for Dawnguard for Skyrim (still 26th June, no delays) and I'm counting the days (and hoping for a 2013 release please Bethesda) until Fallout 4. I'd give Skrim a try, maybe rent it first. |

2 hours into an RPG is nothing. You can spend 2 hours customizing your character lol. With RPGs the game is what you make it.

I bought Elder Scrolls IV a few years back on the recommendation of many people but I just couldn't get into it I found it tedious, I have not really played many other Bethesda games apart from Fallout 3 and New Vegas which I enjoyed but I got a bit bored of New Vegas.

Played Oblivion for a couple of weeks on and off waiting for it to get good like I was promised. It never did. And having watched Major Slack's walk through of Skyrim on his YouTube channel all I can say is it would bore me to tears to play it myself. It's just about bearable in the action bits thanks to his amusing commentary, but it's fast-forward/skip the moment there are long conversations with NPCs and endless making potions and other tedious crap the game makes you wade endlessly through. God it's boring, boring, boring.
Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the immersion an' all that, but the trouble is it's being immersed in a world I would hate to actually live in and find utterly tedious, apart from the few moments of action here and there. Just not my cup of tea, but each to their own. Give me Borderlands for immersion plus fun anyday. Regards Mark |

I'd say if you asked most of the new people playing skyrim what morrowind was they would have no ****ing clue, i don't want to call people sheep but it happens every few years and always with a sequel, people who had no interest in a series suddenly love the new one and have always been fans, like i said i don't want to call people sheep so any other suggestions for what we should call these people... |

I wasn't into them, but then a couple of weeks ago I took a copy of Skyrim to the knee...
Now I want Oblivion. Saying that, though, Champions of Norrath is one of my favourite games and it's not much of a leap between the two. The only problem I have with Skyrim is I can't play with my friend

I think I put about 15+ hours into fallout 3 and probably 20+ into new vegas. i've played much more hours than that on other rpgs like the final fantasy series.

Single player focused games bores me. I got bored of them 15 years ago, until i got the internet a few years later.
I'll try Elder Scrolls Online. |

I have Skyrim, I can easily see the potential of the game but like the OP I just can't sit down and put the hours in to fully appreciate it. I wish I could. It's no reflection on the quality of the game or RPG's in general, its just a genre that is kind of specialized, so to speak. |

I suppose I'm lucky that I like both really. Here's hoping Borderlands 2 lives up to my expectations. Even if I can't get my hands on the Ultimate Loot edition. (right now...) Quote:
The marketing for the game did help too. I never saw a billboard when Oblivion was released or live action TV ads in prime time shows. I'm not saying you're completely wrong, but you have to take other factors into consideration. I came to the Elder Scrolls at Morrowind, so missing out on Arena and Hammerfell. Does this make me a sheep even though I've played these games for nearly 10 years now? You have to start somewhere... |

I loved Oblivion when it came out, and Fallout 3. However I didn't like Fallout New Vegas, or Skyrim.

I've played most of them. I soon lose interest, then go back to them.
Prefering to be out at night also limits game play. |

^ yea but you can have shattered worlds and still make them look beautiful. take ff7 for example, midgar was probably one of the most horrible industrial cities to live in yet playing through it never looked depressing or boring, there was plenty of eye candy and it was visually varied and interesting.

Having put 180 hours into one save on Skyrim I'd say no. Only thing I don't like about Skyrim is I have 97% of the trophies but can't get the Platinum as the one quest I need to do to reach the goal, can not be started because I killed the quest giver way back in my first few hours of play and never realised.
So this weekend start a new save to try and get the trophy, |

So I'm in the same boat as you I just can't stand this games. Only RPG I ever finish was pokemon yellow lol. |
