Once upon a time there were fifteen housemates who sat down to a civilised dinner. Peace and harmony reigned and... no, sorry, that's not what happened. The non-fairy-tale reality is that Deana mentioned the word "period" twice at the dinner table and Lydia and Shievonne were appalled.

"Oh my god," cried Shievonne, at the first mention, "now is not the time."

This subdued Deane for thirty seconds before she casually dropped the p-bomb again.

This time Lydia got involved in the catcalls. Apparently menstrual mentions are "disrespectful" and "not appropriate". It was mooted that Deana's lack of experience in cooking for large groups has created the monster we see before us today.

Bloody hell.

What do you think? Is "period talk" at the table a no-no or were the ladies being over-sensitive. If it makes a difference, the dinner dish was spag bol...

There's a lot of bad blood in that house.

I don't think it's appropriate, but Lydia should have bit her tongue about it rather then making it into a big issue.

I surf the crimson wave of contempt toward anyone who says that periods are "dirty" or "unclean" or "innappropriate"

No more inappropriate than masturbation.

But I draw the line at "tasty".
Vister:)!

Lydia has to get involved? She always seeks a way for camera action, literallly hate that woman. Go back and live with your "celeb finace".

She's one of them people no one would like at school/work.

Deana obviously picking the bad time of the month, should have waited a day or two.

I have no problem with masturbation and certainly didn't lay into Benedict regarding his needs.

But periods happen to us ladies whether we want them or not, they're not the product of our urges and we have no control over them.

Exactly, and without periods, there would be a serious lack of humans on this planet. Not a bad thing actually...

You can choose to eat or not eat, but you can't choose to skip a period. Periods should be talked about daily.

It's fine to discuss them, just not when you are eating. Especially if you are eating ketchup or something!!!

Not exactly ideal dinnertime conversation, is it? Talking about them, fair enough, but at the dinner table? No way.

I discuss my periods at the dinner table...

I watched an episode of Come Dine With Me once and some bloke discussed an abcess he developed on his face. Ewwww! Nobody gets an abcess once a month!

For such a bunch of skanks, they do all seem to be quite prudish, don't they?

I think it's inappropriate at the dinner table while people are eating.

I hope Benedict took the opportunity to fight for the liberation of bodily fluids once again.

I can only pray that after it all died down Benedict revealed he had wanked in the soup

I wouldn't really like someone talking about periods whilst I was eating, but I would tolorate it, unlike Lydia.
She is so highly strung and has this sense of self importance about her.

She really does think she is above the people in that house. I'm sure if Meryl had started talking periods during Mama Mia she would not have got the same reaction.

Lydia is a great housemate, but she needs to realise she is not different to them.

I think any talk about anything that comes out of women's and men's back and front bottoms isn't ideal when you're eating your dinner. Talking about it any other time is fine! Deana should have listened to Shievonne.

I'd say it's borderline at the table. It wouldn't bother me (I've just finished a spag bol whilst reading this as it happens) but I'm surprised someone like Deana would bring it up.

I'd expect it from Ashleigh (I'd expect her to bring up golden showers when they were drinking Champagne...), but not the Lady D.

Oh dear. That did make me laugh because I can just hear him giving a really patronising explanation...

"Now guys, no, come on, guys. It's OK that you feel like reacting... no... it's OK. I'm just saying... OK... I'm just saying it's a very good source of protein, sugar and vitamin C... I know that you feel... OK... I think it shouldn't be wasted..."

Not for the first time, I'm reminded of a passage in Lesley Brain of BB8's book. Not if you're eating:

"Charley is standing by the table. Her minute shorts are level with the top of the table. I lift my knife and fork to eat the salad. Charley digs her nails deep in to her crotch. Her thrush, she tells us, always ever-present, is worse today. Carole, her plate overflowing with boiled vegetables, elbows on table, chin glistening, gives her detailed advice. Scratch. Scratch. I push away my plate.

Should Shievonne also bite her tongue? (Her own tongue, not Lydia's.)

Maybe Deana's more of a sly gameplayer than we thought.
