Blueray/DVD player with usb

Hi.
Can anyone recommend a Blueray/dvd player that has a usb port and can play films and music through the usb off an external hard drive. Of the many films I have on the hard drive most but not all are mkv and avi files. I’ve read that some can play the video files but not the sound and some can play avi files but not mkv files so I’m getting a bit confused. I am wanting to spend the least amount of money as possible. When I bought my main tv for downstairs I took my hard drive with me to currys and tried it it a few tv’s and found that some played the files while most didn’t. I ended up buying a Samsung tv that plays everything, but unlike tv’s all the blueray players were boxed except for the ones on show that were not pluged in. I want the player for my tv upstairs which doesn’t have a usb port. Any help would be most appreciated.

Thank you

My LG Blu-Ray plays .mkvs, .avis etc. fairly well although occasionally one refuses to co-operate. Sometimes it flags up a warning and still plays perfectly so it's bit of a crapshhoot.
I'm on my second LG player because the first one lasted less than a year before developing a fault.

Hi. What do you mean when you say it flags up a warning?
Also what model is it.

I have 2 of these and they play almost all files you throw at them, as ironjade says sometimes they show a message before some files play stating that the file cannot be played or audio not supported, that's nothing to do with Blu-ray player just a bad or unsupported file. you can buy these for about £75 from a few places now.

It's the LGBD620 (the 660 died). It says "this file may not play correctly" but then it plays perfectly. Also "audio format not supported" (when it is) so no sound. The best way around this is to burn the file to DVD which will then provide the sound. No idea why.

My Sony BluRay player plays most file types via USB, those it wouldn't play I converted to a compatible format using Freemake video converter.

I got fed up with that so bought a WD TV Live media streamer which has played everything I have thrown at it, I have a USB HDD attached to it and it connects to the network and will stream from NAS and DLNA devices. Cost about £70.
