Grindhouse: Death Proof and Planet Terror

In 2007 Robert Rodriquez and Quentin Tarantinto released a double feature titled Death Proof and Planet Terror.

Have i missed these two films premiering on UK tv because these two films were released in 2007 and I still haven't seen them on any of the channels. I expect Channel 4 or BBC will show them as they have the rights to Tarantino and Rodriquez's previous films like Dusk Till Dawn, Sin City and Kill Bill.

Good point. I've only seen Death Proof on Sky I think. It was quite average.

Death Proof was utter shite IMO. Planet Terror was only marginally better, but I don't know why it's never made it to terrestrial TV either.

i read that Planet Terror was better than Death Proof according to imdb reviews. Eventually it will turn up on channel 4 or somewhere else but it has been five years already.

Indeed. I was going to say both films represent career lows for both directors but I recently caught Machete and Inglorious Bastards for the first time and those easily took last place on their CVs IMO.

Maybe if Tarantino stopped making half-arsed, derivative “homages” to genres and if Rodriquez could recapture the style and energy of Desperado and Sin City then they might make a film worth watching again.

I've watched both on my month's free trial of Netflix.

Both distinctly average, but with the occasional good bit.

They were both ok, different films really, not either of their finest

here's the irony with both movies .....

now i haven't seen them in their shortened versions (the long movie with the trailers in the middle) and got both seperately on dvd

DEATH PROOF would be far better IN it's shorter version, as the long version BORES me! i'd probably need to watch it again though

PLANET TERROR on the other hand is a terrific movie, and could actually be LONGER, the "grindhouse" effect (the scratches, burns, tears and artifacts) are actually a CHARACTER in themselves, and really put an interesting little twist to what would ordinarily be a decent horror movie ..... and rose magowan ain't that bad either

Separately they aren't much to shout about, but watching the full Grindhouse film with the trailers was quite a fun cinema experience, it's just a shame that the UK split the releases (Death Proof is still quite weak though, too much "chick talk" and not enough grindhouse action, it's almost like QT forgot what film he was supposed to be making).

Death Proof was Tarantino at his most self-indulgent. He thought he could get away witch churning out the end results of him giving himself a handjob.

Planet Terror was Rodriguez' best script he's ever done. Very funny.

Death Proof was Tarrantino's worst by a long shot.

Planet Terror was great though.

Seen both. They were both alright, IMO, but nothing special.
