Since I've got a 3DS, and it's only just a larger screen (and improved battery life) I won't consider getting one. Same with the DS XL, the images could come across stretched and blurry. They were meant to be on the original 3DS size screen.

The biggest let down, is the fact they haven't included a second circle pad. You would've thought on a revised 3DS, they would be able to rectify this problem, and it's not as if the system isn't big enough to fit a second circle pad on it...

Missed opportunity there in my opinion.

Wonder if the 3DS XL will be region free? (Wishful thinking).
If it will be "released in red, black and blue" why are the demo pics white if it wont be released in White anywhere? I liked my white DS Lite

Not convinced.

What does it mean now, Nintendo will already stop making games for 3DS and force users to upgrade to XL? I literally can't afford another console, handheld or otherwise at the moment.

Not at all. It's just a larger screen and extended battery life. They did the same a few years ago. They released the DSi and about a year later released the DSiXL. Both consoles play the same content. Literally nothing changes, execept its a larger screen. It's not the successor to the 3DS, it's just an upgrade (so to speak). You've nothing to worry about

I want to see how it renders the increase in size. If it keeps the old res and blows it up like the DS XL then not so interested.

I knew they wouldn't as it's not a problem in my view and takes quite a lot of functionality away from the touch screen which I guess Nintendo want developers to focus on. I honestly don't think it's needed.

I know from my DSi XL just how much bigger these screen will be, the image will not be blurry in anyway, no doubt a scanline system will be used again which means the contrast will have to be better, and obviously the battery life. Looks like the face buttons have been improved too, let's hope the D-pad has as well.

It'll come without an AC adapter because they think everyone who might want one already had a 3DS.

Pants to that.

Anyone going from a DSI or 3DS > 3DS XL is going to trade their old one in, the charger thing is just a pis take on behalf of Nintendo for an extra £5-£10 of your money. Combine that with DLC for Mario Bros and they've just turned into every other (games) company.

This surely means there will be heaps of old 3DS's out there available second hand without chargers...

Stupidist idea ever.

And really - bigger screen, same resolution? Is that confirmed - totally bonkers if so. The graphics are bad enough as it is.

I believe that's been confirmed as Japan only. Nintendo would never released a 3DS without an adaptor, but what could be the reasons behind them doing this? To prevent trade-in's maybe?

As much as I would love to trade in my current 3DS for an XL the content transfer won't be possible unless Nintendo launch a new online service over the summer which will tie downloads to our accounts. No way am I losing all the DSiWare and eShop games.

I love the look of the silver 3DS, probably one of the nicest portables I've seen, those large screens are gonna be so cool, it'll really improve the 3D effect and I can't wait to play Castlevania LOS: Mirror of Fate on it. DS games (and DSiWare) will also look great now as we'll be able to play them in their native resolution without staring at a screen the size of a postage stamp. Hooray!

I already have an aqua blue 3DS but I will buy a blue 3DS XL for the bigger screen and longer batterie life and it should hopefully be more comfy due to the larger size of the system.

When Nintendo had the original DS I brought one and then brought the DS Lite and then the DSi and then the DSi XL which was cool because it has the bigger screens which I really liked as well as the bigger stylus.

Before the 3DS XL is released on the 28th July I need to find out if software and game that I have downloaded can be transferred from 3DS to 3DS XL and how much the 3DS XL will cost in the UK.

My current 3DS will go to either my mum, dad or sister once I have transferred my downloaded software and games.

Fingers crossed the original 3DS model goes down in price a bit. I quite fancy one, and one for the youngest, but I don't want to pay the current asking price. I'm tight. Yorkshireman, see.

That's poor considering Miyamato said:

Quote:
"I really feel like I'm satisfied with the 3DS hardware as it is. I feel like it's the best for this generation," Miyamoto told me, when I asked about the Nikkei's recent report about a 3DS XL, and whether his company did have plans for something similar. The Nintendo executive noted that his company is always thinking about what's next. "What we're thinking about right now is probably going to be for a future generation of handheld."
So much for no new version of the 3DS then...

Having said that, I am interested in getting a one of these, what games woud you recommend?

According to ShopTo

Quote:
Even with the addition of the bigger screen, Nintendo's aim was to still make the system available at a reasonable purchase price. Because of this, and because so many fans already own a previous handheld, an AC adapter will not be included.
For £180 that's poor show IMO.

I assume that to mean my DS lite adapter will work?

ShopTo is guessing what the uk package will contain based on the japanese package. Nintendo
US already said theirs will come with an adapter.

I bought my 3DS at lauch and got royally ripped off back then. If I'd known they would bring out an XL so soon I would have waited as I still prefer my DSi XL and use that more than my 3DS.

The adaptor thing doesn't bother me as I still use my DSi XL charger for my 3DS and we have 2 3DS's in the house anyway so not short of chargers, but it does seem a bit stupid to sell them without chargers.

Trading in will be impossible unless you're prepared to lose all your purchases, so as soon as it comes out there will be a gazillion 3DS's on eBay once everyone has transferred their stuff over.

That said, I am quite excited about the screen size..

Cheers I will watch some reviews.

Just started paying Pokemon Black, seems good so far but a bigger screen than my DS lite would be great.

It's really between this and the Vita but the Vita has no games I want except Uncharted.

I remember hearing a while back about the 3DS getting a login system like PSN / Xbox live, was that just a rumor?

The Guardian article states there will be no charger included in Japan or Europe.

Yeah, the Nintendo Direct Europe video actually showed you a picture of the Adaptor in a seperate package.

If you missed it, you can watch it here. (The adaptor bit is about 5 minutes in. The seperate adaptor package is shown around 5:30)

Nintendo admitted it was a big mistake not putting a second joystick pad on the 3DS...

And now here they are with a 3DS XL which has a huge space on the right side, and did they put the second joystick pad there? No. It's like Nintendo aren't even trying...

I'm no fanboy of Nintendo, that has been shown, but...

They can't really change the hardware at this point, if games were made for the 2nd analogue stick their would be a lot of annoyed 3DS users,
