hi,my name is michael, balders younger brother , bro balders
when we were kids we used to watch black adder and i started calling him baldrick, he in turn started to call me baldrick we have addressed each other in this manner for over 35 years, following ians sad passing i was looking through the memorials in our local paper and was amazed to see all the messages coming in from ds, i had never even heard of this site and never knew he was so "cyber active" balders has always been a legend to me and it certainly seems he was well loved on ds,i would like to thank each and every one of you for your very kind words, these have been of huge comfort to me and the balders family at what has been a very hard time, if anyone would like to know anything about balders life or death or the other legend that is ma balders please feel free to ask via thread or message,i will be happy to correspond, love to all you kind people, bro balders p.s at 22.00 hours last night an air rescue mission was deployed, in darkness, using night vision , and the latest heat seeking equipment a crack sas team swooped on balders now empty property, i am pleased to say fluffers is now safe and sound with a crate of stella and a kebab watching sky sports on the settee with the balders family boxer dogs xxx |

Ian - our Balders - was such a huge part of our lives, either here or on FaceBook that it is still incomprehensible that he is gone. Take our love and hugs and please know that your brother touched so many lives in such a positive way that his memory will live on all over the world. |

I grieve for your loss, having recently lost two family members and a dear friend. I now know that they are never really gone because they live on in my heart. I am sure it is the same for your family.
My deepest sympathy. |

![]() To post to us at this time is a really lovely thing to do and I know how much people appreciate it. I'm so glad you and the family realise just how much he is thought of by so many people. It may be a cyber community but there are many very true friendships on here and I am proud and privileged to call Balders a true friend. We had quite legendary punning (or puning) competitions and we both shared commissions as Deputies in the STFU Carole Movement (it's a long but wonderful story!). He never ceased to amaze me with his knowledge, his humour, his ............... well, most things really. I envy you your role as his brother and I deeply feel for you in your loss. There is truly only one Balders and he will live on in the hearts of so many forever. (Mind you, I still say he supported a shite football team although in the dark days before Toon arose phoenix-like from the ashes we used to share his pain and take the mickey accordingly )

I had to laugh, though, at your discovery of Balders 'secret life' as you read messages and strange names on his tribute site. I wonder how many of our family and friends would go 'eh?' 'what'? at discovering our 'secret lives'! What is lovely, is discovering that the much maligned (often with very good reason) internet does have some very special people posting - a read through of this thread, whilst sad, is also very heartwarming and heartfelt. My condolences to you and your family; your brother touched many lives. star xxxx (as JoniM would say.....class of 2007!) |

I am more acquainted with Ian from Facebook, where I enjoyed his unique sense of fun and silliness so much. I'm glad you now know just how much Ian was adored by so many people and delighted that you have taken Fluffers into safekeeping. You may need to add tweacle to your weekly shop from now on, My deepest condolences to you and your family. x |

![]() Thank you for joining and posting this at what must be such a difficult time for you. You have no idea how much comfort this post brings to us - to know you are in turn comforted by how much affection and respect we had for lovely Balders. He was a good man, and it's clear you are a close and loving family. I feel for you all - especially Ma Balders. I'm sure I won't be the only one thinking of you all tomorrow at 1pm. I wish I lived closer, so I could pay my respects in person. I shall never be able to hear or see anything to do with the Toon, without thinking of Balders. He'll be up there, ranting and raving whenever they c*ck up ![]() Thanks again for posting - it's so much appreciated. xx |

In the normal course of real life I doubt that Balders and I would ever have met, but through the magic of the ether, I'm so pleased that we did. I learned a lot from him, some of his posts were like an extract from a textbook, so well explained and his enthusiasm was contagious. There's no doubting that you're his brother, I can hear his words in your message, and I know that you're quite rightly, proud to be his little brother I'm also hugely relieved to hear of Operation Fluffers - his rescue sounds legendary and would've suited Balders perfectly! My sincere condolences to you and your family, particularly to Ma Balders, and I shall drink a Stella tomorrow at 1pm to the memory of a lovely man, |
