Viva Forever @ Piccadilly Theater Dec 2012

Quote:
“Viva Forever, the Spice Girls musical, will replace Ghost the Musical at the Piccadilly Theatre. Previews will begin in November 2012 before an official opening in December.

The Spice Girls are the most successful girl group of all time, having sold more than 75 million records worldwide with hits such including “Say You’ll Be There,” “Spice Up Your Life,” and “Who Do You Think You Are.” They catapulted into the charts with their debut single “Wannabe” in 1996, and their reunion tour in 2007 grossed more than $100 million.

Judy Craymer, the producer behind the mega-hit Mamma Mia!, will also produce Viva Forever. After successfully using ABBA’s songs to tell an completely unique story, Viva Forever will follow the same format with a script by Jennifer Saunders, most famous for her work on the hit sitcom Absolutely Fabulous. The plotline is said to feature a young girl trying out for an X Factor-style reality show, and will stay true to the Spice Girls theme of “girl power.”

Tickets are expected to go on sale in the coming weeks, and you can sign up on Cheap Theatre Tickets.com to be alerted as soon as they become available.”

I know a lot of people will be very sad to see Ghost go but.... let's be honest. This is what we want, what we really, really want.

Yes, loads, but unless it has a superstar cast or talent, original musicals have to be trialled off-West End or off-Broadway before they take over one of these major theatres.

Looks like all five Spice Girls are going to the press launch on Tuesday.

Pretty exciting.

Wow! First 5 girl public (and maybe even private) reunion since the ROTSG tour ended I think.

Wow I didn't know the woman from Mamma Mia was producing it. I just thought it was Jennifer Saunders, which is still pretty good in its own right.

You can bet Geri goes all out to make sure this is made into a movie!

That's a shame for Ghost. I thought it was great when I saw it last December. It deserves a longer run...although maybe ticket sales aren't great? If so, I can't blame them for replacing it with another show.

I'm not sure what to think about a Spice Girls musical though, other than I won't be rushing to see it even though I liked their music back in the day.
