Damages- sheer class
The League of Gentlemen- genius
Sherlock- fantastic atmospheric theme tune

Also there used to be this programme on LWT on Friday nights called Nightlife (does anyone remember it?) The music & titles made me want to go clubbing

Numerous different versions of it, this is the 80's one for flashback episodes:

One I recall from being a very young lad:
Budgie series 2 had a vocal (presumably Adam Faith) which I didn't like as much.

Of course at the time I'd have been more interested inStingray!!!

Kickass! Anything can happen in the next half hour!
And then they turned it up a notch for the intro to Thunderbirds

Coming more upto date I rather like The Borgias

But my fave is, as mentioned above, Game of Thrones

The Simpsons (can't seem to find the old one anywhere!)
Grandstand (Complete with that BBC Sport ident, magic!)
Emmerdale (1998-2005)
Catchphrase (Saturday night classic!)
The Moment of Truth
Take the High Road (Had many beautiful sequences, but the last one was my favourite)

A vote here for Grandstand and Catchphrase. Fantastic openings. I suppose they're actually quite similar in idea - something I've never realised before.

I also liked Treasure Hunt too and Gamesmaster for its second series. And Neighbours in the late 80s, early 90s.

Oh! And He-Man. I'm sure the first five minutes of each episode was actually the theme tune and the story about how he got his powers and has to face Skeletor but has the "might Battlecat" to assist him.

I also quite liked Minder. I suppose a lot of my favourites are also down to their theme tunes.

Can't say I've ever enjoyed Coronation Street's opening sequence. I'm sure it's one of those programmes that's doomed to keep the same style of opening for eternity.

A friend told me about fringe about a month ago and I've just finished watching all four seasons! Immediately that theme music and all the opening title variations became my all time favourites.

I really loved the music and graphics for the BBC show Artifax (art show for kids) - sadly could not find it on Youtube

Game of Thrones

Subtle little changes depending on the location of the action each week.

Because I love Art Deco, the opening graphics of Poirot & Jeeves & Wooster appeal to me.
Music wise, has to be:
Dr Who
Southbank Show (jazzed up version of A Theme on Paganini)
The Sandbaggers - never get tired of hearing that lush sax.
And I rather like the big band sound of the re hashed Coronation St theme.
