Orange SPV C500 / Orange Upgrade
Hi all
![]() My upgrade's due soon - in January. I was thinking about a SE P910i, but then I saw the SPV C500. It seems to do everything that the P910i can, minus the big screen. The Orange website says it'll cost me £249 to upgrade to it, plus £88 upgrade fee (I assume there won't be an upgrade fee in January?). Has anyone got the SPV C500? Is it any good? All of the reviews I've found have been positive. I'm thinking about just paying the £88 fee, to get the phone now. But when it comes to January, I'm not sure if I'll be able to stay on the same tarriff? In January this year, Orange online were doing 120 mins/250 texts for £25 a month. I managed to get my local orange store to match this, because there were massive delays with mail order at the time. But will I be able to keep the 250 texts/month for the second year? My bill says: Preset 250 Text .......................... £0.00 Cheers for any advice

You can buy a SPV 500 (with pay as you go sim) for between £160 (Ebay new) - £195 new on the link below.
http://www.smesolutions.co.uk/modaco/orange.htm I would like to get one myself. Perhaps in the new year when prices are more sensible. The only annoying thing about the SPV 500 is that it uses a Mini SD card (expensive & poor value for money) & to access the SD card you have to take the battery out! Much smaller phone than the P910 & it has a much better camera as well. |

The miniSD prices don't seem too bad - there's a 128mb one for £13.99 on eBay.

I've had one of these since August, and love it to bits. As an upgrade to my SPV E100 it sorted out almost all the issues I had with the earlier versions (speed, battery life etc..).
Best of all the upgrade was free, on the agreement I would swtich to a higher contract for at least 6 months. This had only cost me an extra £4 a month and gives me 120 any network minutes, double that of the 60 I had previously. This was in an Orange shop though, so if you are on a tariff you don't want too loose you might have some charge to pay. Or you could visit the Orange shop with your current tariff and they'll match it as far as I'm aware. If you are out of contract you should hopefully get a free phone too. |

Love my Orange C500 too - it's a truly great phone!
I'm on Talk 200 and it was a free upgrade for me, which was a bonus because I'd ahve been more than happy to pay for it... the fact that I can sync seamlessly with both Microsoft Outlook and Ximian Evolution (in Linux) makes the C500 a joy to behold, and now the battery lasts a good 4 or 5 days (that's quadruple what I got out of the SPV E100!) I feel like I have a proper phone, rather than a fancy PDA that I can happen to make calls on. Highly recommended. |
