Global Radio (the UK's largest radio group) have just bought GMG Radio (UK's third-largest radio group) for £70m which means that they now own the Real Radio and Smooth Radio networks, as well as Capital, Heart and others.

I guess it also means that no one in the UK will ever be more than 2m away from a radio playing Domino or Mama Do The Hump.

Just listened to Capital thought it was promising as they played Too Close by Alex Clare but then the DJ said Jessie J's Domino and The Wanted were up next so I switched over

Capital should be renamed to Domino.

Eeek, how depressing. How is anyone ever supposed to get a leg up in this industry if their not a member of the Global Talent Group? Though I'm sure Jessie J and The Wanted will be rubbing their hands together.

Sounds ridiculous that they are allowed to have such an unfair monopoly of the market.

I listen to Radio 1 by default these days. Global is sucking the life out of radio with their repetitious playlists. It's going to be even more difficult for artists outside of their group to get playlisted now.

Capital is an awful station
I came to hate Jessie J's music because of that station

Sickening. Let's hope Radio 1 picks up the baton and gives new talent a look in

The deregulation of commercial local radio is just as bad as that of broadcasting. No surprises that the chairman of Global is Charles Allen who was head of Granada when they 'merged' with Carlton to mawke ITV national

I think this gives Radio 1 a great oppportunity. Its noticable over the last year or two that they are trying to move not away but give new talent a chance. With the intro on DJ's big thing and with the Hackney academy. A lot of artists give there success down to Radio 1 playlistings in their early days. You never do or will hear that for Capital

Apart from those on management or publishing deals with Global
http://www.thisisglobal.com/publishing/Artists/ - The Vaccines, Ellie Golding, LMFAO, Tribes to name a few.The other songwriter's listed also write song's for other major artist's - basically the publishing copyright is 'in-house' when this happen's - saves them at least 50% ?? of the performance royalty cost's which radio stations have to pay for each song played.Other stations (BBC + other commercial stations outside of 'Global radio' not just in the UK either) will have to pay these performance royalty fee's to Global publishing for these song's - a double whammy
http://www.thisisglobal.com/talent/ - The Wanted & Lawson

Just found this article which sort of explains how Global are trying to monetise the music they promote.

Guardian article about 'possible sale' (going to Office of Fair Trading) - who are part of the same group as GMG

This is what Global e-mailed to staff
