while we are on the subject of childrens tv programmes can i ask about channel 5s childrens programming etc. why because if i want to apply for any such childrens shows as an audience member or be on a show like you would for the BBC & i am aiming this soley at my 14 year old daugther & 3 year old son who may want to be on a channel 5 kids programme where do i go to get information? also on that note what about CITV & channel 4? though i did note that citv uses maidstone studios for alot of there outputs, but might be wrong on that .
In terms of being on a programme, you could go to the respective websites (CBeebies/CBBC) and click on 'Be on a Show'. |

CITV don't seem to have much live-action original progamming, neither do Five. I think for a 3 year old you'd be looking at CBeebies. As far as I am aware, 'Justin's House' uses a live audience (with 3-5 year olds of course). A 14-year-old could probably attend a 'Friday Download' filming, more information here: http://www.sroaudiences.com/application.asp?show_id=639

Yesterday's ratings:
07:45 - Horrible Histories: 213k (3.4%) 16:00 - Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated: 354k (3.5%) 16:30 - Pet School: 244k (2.1%) 17:00 - The Story of Tracy Beaker: 334k (2.5%) 17:15 - Leonardo: 240k (1.6%) 17:45 - Blue Peter: 204k (1.2%) 18:15 - Rocket's Island: 191k (0.96%) I think they need a good sitcom with a live audience to bring in some decent ratings, something similar to what we would see on Disney Channel in the US. |

And the last thing CBBC needs is a mind numbing american style sitcom. Those Disney & Nick ones are just awful- and dont rate that well either. It needs a Grange Hill / Byker Grove ongoing style drama. CBBC needs to refocus on all kids under 16. Its dumbed down "stupid kid" presentation style doesnt help either. |

Breaks my heart to see those ratings. BP used to get 5 million in its heyday.

But onto dramas, one that has worked out well for them is Tracy Beaker Returns. I think many kids were able to relate to the whole 'care home' concept which is why it rated well. I think CBBC should work on the BP-style drama as you mentioned, but how would it work (scheduling), as well as what it would be based on? |

I popped into my next door neighbour's house last weekend and they have kids who are 8 and 10. What were they watching? One of those mind numbing US kids sitcoms on Nick.
But then again, I remember watching Saved by the Bell on C4, so nothing's changed, bar the massive amount of choice kids have these days and from what I could see, Nick and Disney are viewed the most with my neighbours kids over the CBBC channel. |

I don't think ratings are important for kids channels because most people who uses BARB boxes are adults, Only time the kids channels get measured if a adult lets the kid view the channel on a TV with a BARB box. But I think most kids watch there TV in another room which I don't think is measured

Well, what else can CBBC try apart from dramas/sci-fi shows etc that could pull in viewers? Reality shows don't rate well often, but with the promotion, if 'Comic Relief does Glee Club' airs next year, it could rate decently on CBBC alone.

A start date of 4th January for both The Dumping Ground (a follow-up from Tracy Beaker Returns) and 4 O'Clock Club.
It'll be interesting to see how The Dumping Ground turns out without Dani Harmer playing Tracy Beaker as TBR was possibly CBBC's biggest ratings hit. 4 O'Clock Club actually fared pretty well in the ratings earlier this year, and was quite well recieved, being nominated for a BAFTA etc, and it seems many young people are able to relate to it. |
