Recently bought a TVonics DVR-HV250; turns out it's a really old one (v1.1) and I can't get it to upgrade, which is kinda essential given how unreliable the v1.1 firmware was.
I've got the v1.2 software from http://www.tvonics.com/software-upgrade-v11 on a USB stick, and agree to install it, and it says "This'll take about 10 minutes, then it'll restart"; three to ten seconds later that windows disappears and the machine continues to function as per usual. Manually restarting by pulling the power (regardless of how long you wait) causes it to crash on the next boot (it resets once more and gets better) but doesn't upgrade the firmware.
Is this one to send back to Tesco Extra?
