MP3 length limitations?
I wonder whether the MP3 format is limited in length, or if Shoutcast limits the total length of a track ?
I encode with variable bit rate (joint stereo, 96..192 kbps) and have trouble with tracks exceeding 55 minutes. This is all handled through a streaming (shoutcast) server, and something breaks with these tracks. I can listen to them fine directly (just play the MP3), but when streaming the players get stuck - but maybe its the server. Don't know what the problem might be. Pointers welcome. |

I dont belive the mp3 file format itself has a maximum track length (certainly nothing as short as 55mins)

A quick skim through iTunes shows my maximum length MP3 to be a 1999 Essential Mix at 373 minutes
So I'm not sure what the problem with Shoutcast is but it definitely isn't a limitation of MP3 technology.Leigh |

Shoutcast problems are more to do with the size of the file rather than the length of the track.
