So had Colin!

I think Simon Pegg would be fine as the Doctor. Sadly, though, he'll have to wait until Ben Miller, Eddie Izzard and Andy Serkis have had their turns.

Although, as I hope he'll be involved in a lot of Star Trek movies in the next few years, that might be a good thing.

No no G, and thrice no!

Now Richard Coyle would be a yes!

Colin Baker had previously been in Doctor Who before becoming the Sixth Doctor. It doesn't need explaining, it's just one actor playing two different parts at different times in the same programme, it's no big deal.

Although I do prefer Nick Frost.

I don't have anything against him. I don't have anything against James Corden either but I still don't want him to play the Doctor.

And as others have mentioned so was Colin Baker, and Eve Myles.

Besides its already established Time Lords can end up looking like other people with Romana's dodgy regeneration scene. :-)

Just to add that Philip Madoc and Bernard Horsfall both appeared in Season Six of Classic Who in two different roles so there really isn't any written rule that an actor shouldn't appear twice in a short space of time as others have pointed out, though it is unusual for it to happen.

As for Simon Pegg, it would be hard to know if he would make a good Doctor without seeing him in the role. I personally would prefer James Nesbitt or even better, David Morrissey as a real Doctor. I've seen him in a few roles since he was in The Next Doctor and he seems to play kindly but flawed roles quite well, which I think makes him ideal to come back and play The Doctor proper!

Martha and Gwen, at least, did get some explaining - Maxil and Amy have had no such luck.

Which, for some reason, I found a bit tacky and unnecessary. I think its better to just leave it imho!

In terms of Amy, it was quite a 'blink and you'll miss it!' part in FoP. I didn't even realise until someone on here pointed it out.

I'm ok with previous Who actors coming back. I do get a bit annoyed when they are semi-major characters with a lot to do with the plot return but thats just me!

I was going to mention Philip Madoc's numerous appearances as different characters, but I thought someone would make the distinction that he only played one off guest characters rather than a permanent leading character.

As for Simon Pegg, I do like his films, but I wouldn't want to see someone like him play The Doctor. I'd prefer someone less well known.

I only mentioned Philip Madoc as his two roles in Season 6 were barely months apart. I'm sure that's why he was given the glasses and a beard in The War Games in case he got recognised as he'd been in the show such a short time previously!

With Simon Pegg, I don't think I could ever say he'd be no good as The Doctor. I don't think you can say that about too many established actors unless you've seen them in the role. Clearly his previous role in The Long Game would probably give you the impression he may be an ass in the role, but you just don't know. At least with David Morrissey he's played a Doctor of sorts so I think he'd be ideal.

And having someone less known can work, as we know from Tom Baker. Indeed, all the New Series Doctors I've not known too much about before Doctor Who and they all seem to have succeeded in the role, so there you go!

You're right, we can't know how Pegg would be as The Doctor unless he plays it. He might be amazing. I just prefer less known actors. But I guess it works either way, Peter was pretty well known before playing the part as was Paul McGann.

I think Davison possibly had the highest profile of any Doctor when he took the part as he was here, there and everywhere in the early 80's. Paul McGann I knew less about but I did have the sneak suspicion from the trailers at the time he would be a good Doctor and he was. Shame he wasn't able to continue.

I cannot watch anything Pegg is in - he is the ultimate irritant to me, I would have to stop watching such is my discomfort whenever I see him

I'm sure he's reasonably intelligent and a nice guy but...

I've talked to a lot of people I know about him (because he's guested at/ruined a couple of Coldplay concerts I've been to) and while a lot think he's fantastic (!!) a lot feel like me. Interestingly, foreigners (and particularly younger foreign ladies) seem to love him for some reason.

I think he's this generation's Mr Bean.
