London 2012: The Official Video Game - out this Friday
Anyone else looking forward to this? I am! It's out this week. I loved Beijing 2008. The only bummer was the silly glitch with the online scoreboard......100m in like 2 seconds, etc.!! http://www.olympicvideogames.com/london2012/ |

I got this (PC). I use a PS3 pad with motionjoy adaptor to play it, which is awesome.
I'm a really big fan of the athletics style games from the very early ones through to Track and Field, Athlete Kings, Olympics games, Athens etc etc.. Always played them with my brother and mates. I find this particular one to be really enjoyable. I do miss the button mashing and pad destroying of the old ones (coining was my favorite technique), however the games need to evolve in order to get more people playing it. The graphics on this one are top notch, especially the outdoor stadium. There are some ropey animations in places, notably with the high jump, but other than that it stands up as a decent title. The events are varied, though there is some repetition with the swimming and such. The sprint events are well done and the split screen really helps in MP. Records can be broken, though some of them are pretty hard to get. I have found however that some records acn arbitrarily be beaten and have struggled to beat them. I got 24.77 on the shot put with a decent throw, then have had better power and angle in future throws but haven't even been close. I'd be wary of reviews of this game, as reviewers tend to low score them if they're not a fan of the genre. If you've played previous then you'll really enjoy it. I'd say it was most similar to Beijing in style, but the content is much much better and the game is more enjoyable to play, especially with your mates. Of note : You can't play the campaign mode in MP, so no qualifying when you're doing a group of up to 8 events at once. If you're playing this with two players, this means that the Volleyball and the Table tennis (both really good) are guaranteed medals with silver the minimum. |

I picked this up in Asda on Saturday after trading a few games in & love it, all the events i have tried so far are easy enough to pick up but the best thing for me is the multiplayer option where me, the wife & two kids can compete against each other, we spent hours & hours on it yesterday & even if your not into sports(the wife) you can still have a right good family time on it...Thumbs up from me

Hmmmm, I'm not sure I like the track sprinting events, especially the 100m & 200m. 400m is fine.
I think, in real-life, the 100 & 200 don't require any degree of tactics or stamina in order to win - you simply need to go flat-out - so why does this game prevent you from going flat out - for those who haven't played it yet, rather than alternating buttons A & B as a quickly as you can, you only need to press A......but the problem is that if you press it too quickly, your athlete slows down. This method works well in the 400m, which kinda makes sense. Sega seem to have listened too much to criticism of the simplistic "button-bashing" control method used in previous games. Why have all track events go completely the other way, therefore completely alienating those who enjoy button-bashing? If they patched the 100 & 200 to simply allow button-bashing, the game would have just the right amount of variety. |

What kind of game is it? I have played fifa games. But it is only about one type of sport - football. But Olympic games consist of different sport competitions and how all these games can be included in one disc ?

Bought it Friday for Xbox 360. It's now on eBay. As an Olympics game it's pretty boring tbh. If you like your sporting realism in games then this one falls by the way side unfortunately. 100m and 200m are a huge let down, you just sit there and press a button in a rather monotonous rhythm trying not to let your athlete slow down. As a poster above commented, nothing will ever touch International Track And Field, as button mashing and finger crippling as it was, it was an awful lot of fun, where effort equalled better results. Sega appear to have gone in completely the opposite direction unfortunately. I was disappointed with the Beijing 2008 game 4 years ago, I'm sorry to say I'm even more disappointed by London's game. If you're an athletics gaming purist stick to I T&F. As ancient as it looks, or even Athens 2004 for the PS2, which I spent literally years playing. Might dig it out actually lol.

Is anyone still playing/enjoying this game? I stopped playing after about 3 sessions.
Shame really as I've enjoyed previous attempts. |
