Doubt many people will reply to this but anyone else heard this yet. Think its their best for many albums and far better than vapour trails and snakes and arrows.
But with most rush albums the only way to fully appreciate and fully understand their music is to listen on headphones with no visual distractions.

My husband bought the fanpack, pretty cool very nice official magazine that comes with the album that is in a hard cover style digipack

I'll be buying the album when it comes out, as i have every other one.

My nephew has the fanpack and he lent me his copy last night so I look forward to giving it a spin later. Every review I've read has said it is their best album for a long time.

Looking forward to seeing them on tour next year too!!!

Yeah the fanpack is stupid money now, 32 quid on amazon, my other half bought it when it was first released was about 14 quid then. Worth having a read of the offical magazine that comes with it if your a big rush fan, its about 130 pages or so containing all new material, also has a review of every rush album, many by artists in the rock world, manics, foo fighers, gene simmons plus many more.

Not sure if the standard release comes in a hard style digibook or a normal jewelcase, think it comes out mid July. Thats one advantage of the fanpack, get the album officially a month early!

Musically its brilliant, has a feel of some of their old stuff in places as well. But like all rush albums you pick up more and more with each play, certainly an album that needs many plays to fully appreciate.

Hi Geordielady - a rare female Rush fan. Actually there are many more these days than there used to be. Whenever I tell people I like Rush I often get one of two responses:

1. Who are they?
2. Are they still going?

Well, Clockwork Angels debuted at No. 2 on Billboard so the answer to 2. is definitely yes!

I've heard it six times now and it gets better each time but Rush albums, especially recent ones, do require considerable effort. I agree it's better than Vapor Trials and probably Snakes and Arrows. Vapor Trails is the only studio album of theirs I dislike, which I suppose is astonishing given 19 original studio albums (I exclude Feedback, which was covers).

There are loads of females who like Rush, well I know 3
I got into them when I met my husband back in the 80's, he was a big fan and when he played me a farewell to kings, moving pictures and permanant waves I was blown away and been a fan ever since. My husband who is a professional musician himeself reckons moving pictures from a pure music perspective is one of the most perfect albums every made, hard to argue with him on that!
Like you I love all their stuff, of course some albums better then others but even vapour trails and S&A offers plenty of great music. For me their best period was kings to power windows and since then there has been a very slight decline in each album. Clockwork angels brings back a little of the old rush sound in places and your right it takes many listens.
Have you ever watched any of Neil pearts Drum videos/ DVD's the one with Neil doing the test for echo walkthrough is amazing.

Yes, there always were some - though I think it is noticeably more these days.

A Farewell to Kings was the first one I heard. You could say the period you mention was their creative peak. I think with most bands who span decades there's always a period of about 10 years when they are at their consistent best and then if they're lucky they will continue to produce good, but not great albums - and the occasional one will be "the best in years."

I agree. Despite my not liking Vapor Trails it still has some songs I consider outstanding.

No, I've only ever watched the drum solos live and in the concert DVDs.

Have you seen my nearby Panic Room post? I don't know if you like any of the modern prog bands but it seems to be much more common now to have female leads, as in Panic Room, or male/female and it does add something different I feel, but in a good way.

I'm not really familiar with Rush and their music. I've only heard a couple of songs from their new album, and have listened to Permanent Waves in it's entirety, but it's a good album and one I never get bored of listening to. The two songs that I've heard from their new album are good as well.

I'll probably end up buying a few more of their albums if they are as good as Permanent Waves.

Their albums vary quite a bit especially in their early years. You can quite often come across people who like one or two albums and nothing else! But the one or two albums could be almost anything!

If you like Permanent Waves then the "companion" piece to this is definitely Moving Pictures which I think is still their most commercially successful album, not that this was their aim. It was simply their next album as they saw it but lots happened to like it.

Their earlier "classic" album that constituted their breakthrough (in rock circles) was 2112.

Agree with most of the comment's above. The production is a little bit deceiving to what's really going on behind at times.Your brain sort of get's used to it after awhile & it all sort of click's into place after a few listen's.I'm sure this was intentional.I couldn't get into alot of the track's on Vapour Trail's either (previous album Snakes & Arrow's more straight forward alternative rock) - some are still a bit hard to get into to this day.Perhap's this album is a refinement on some of the production trick's they tried on that album - this time it work's consistantly throughout though, eventually

If you consider yourself a rock alrounder or are a rock musician yourself.Think this album is a must to check out - just for the sound production side of it alone, if you're into that sort of area.

Just read an article about why it only reached No.76 in UK chart's.Apparently fan-pack was not eligible for chart entry - Would have got to No.1 otherwise - was wondering about why it was so low.
"In the UK -- where the album was also released as an exclusive non-chart eligible fan pack format which included a 132 page booklet covering the entire history of the band -- "CLOCKWORK ANGELS" garnered a 5 out of 5 review in The Sun, Britain's largest newspaper. Had the 40,000 fanpacks sold been chart eligible, the album would have debuted at #1 in the UK as well"

Is this still part of the anti-Rush conspiracy that still exist's in 'some' area's of the music industry / press.Slowly winning over alot of the media though it seem's.No.2 in Billboard is pleasing though - although not that important for a band like Rush.

NME called them fascists in the 1970s at the height of punk, which didn't go down too well. They were perhaps unaware that Geddy Lee's parents were Nazi concentration camp survivors. But generally, as far as the mainstream music press is concerned, Rush should just go away. I think the NME later said that trying to get rid of Rush was like trying to get rid of terminal cancer.

The Fan-pack alone sold more than NME does these day's.NME only sold 27K last time it was monitored I believe / fan-pack 40K alone in the UK.The cancer wasn't overcome it seems.Perhaps NME is terminal ill now as well. Not sure I'll be grieving if they stop printing

Bumping an old post. However have you heard the remixed version of Vapor Trails. I recently got it in a box set of studio albums from 1989-2007. It's a vast improvement on the original.
