It's irrelevant that one would have been longer than the other, they both would have gone to prison. Fact. And IMO that would have been the correct outcome.
Soaps encouraging viewers not to go to the police and showing that ultimately the sex offenders get away with their crimes is irresponsible. It will effect how some viewers preceive their chances of getting justice in the future.
I am sorry Macs was raped but it doesn't mean his own character shouldn't have actually been in prison at the time it happened. And they didn't spend the time exploring how it all effected Izzy a year and more down the line. Or even really how it was still effecting her when she came back. So they dropped the ball on the emotional fallout for both characters as well as they did on the irresponsible messages they sent out about sex offenders.”
The woman who played Izzy was on maternity leave and had personal reasons for not coming back. I actually thought they did a good job with Izzy, because they had only 2 weeks.
You and I are going to completely disagree on this. I hate forced courtroom scenes on television where people get closure and bad guys always go to jail. I find that very false to what actually happens in court.
Even with Macs I think yes I would like Scott to be in jail. But that doesn't necessarily mean I think it would have been good for him to go to court. I have been to court with people who where counting on winning a case for their pyschological health. Sometimes those people don't win or they do win and they don't get the sentence they wanted or the remorse they wanted, and they feel worse.
You never see that on television, when court makes things worse for people. It happens all the time. I find that people are actually very unprepared for that. Their exspectations are set by what happens on TV. When you've got a weak legal case what happens is you usually lose. It doesn't matter how right you might be or how much you need personal justice. I don't like when tv gives the impression you can win everything.
