Hi,

I've just bought an Hitachi 3 way scart switch from Argos to switch rgb sources (x-box & htpc), but the picture has faint diagonal lines on both sources that aren't present when the cables are plugged directly into the tv. Can anyone recommend a scart switch that doesn't suffer with picture nasties? I will have to return this Hitachi offering, so what to replace it with. Argos do another switch that doesn't have a tail, so anyone tried one of those?

Any help appreciated,

Steve

I have the £30 argos 'electronic' switch and have had no problems whatsoever with that.

It's made by masterplug and is silver

I wouldn't blame the scart swithcher unit as the single cause of interference as such. It also depends on the quality of leads that you are using with it. I've been using a couple of switch units for over ten years. The main interference I got, when using switcher units, was cured by disabling pin 19 within the scart plugs leading into the back of the tv.
Budget scart leads vary in quality. Better quality -well shielded- budget scart plugs can be easily broken apart and reasembled. Makes things simple when it comes to wire snipping. On the other hand there are cheap and nasty budget leads that are badly shielded and not even fully wired. These should be avoided at all costs.

Thanks for your replies. I don't think the existing cables are at fault, because there was no interference before I added the switch. The x-box cable is the official advanced av cable with sp/dif dongle in the middle, the htpc cable is a modified vga monitor cable, all signal wires individually screened. The 'tail' of the Hitachi switch is not very thick, so I suspect it's not fully sheilded.

Telly-man, does the masterplug switch you have do rgb on all inputs or just some? I need to have rgb on both inputs i'm using.

Thanks

Steve

I'd guess that to be the problem. I always go for 'tailless' switches, so I can use my own decent cable.
