The last 2 Saturdays our local Sainsbury's has been out of cauliflowers. One of the assistants said that they were having problems getting them.

There is a notice in my local Costcutter today saying that there is a shortage of cauliflowers and broccoli due to adverse growing conditions.
The few cauliflowers they did have were quite small and priced at £1.99 each. The broccoli was £5.99 per kilo. They expected that there would be no broccoli at all for the next few weeks.
The larger supermarkets are trying to get their supplies from America until the situation improves.

The article says farmers are ploughing back cauliflower because they are too big. That's a disgrace.

^^^ @ Welshlad!
really! I hate it when food has to conform to standard sizing! Weigh it, I'd pay for a larger/ smaller portion. My husband paid 99p for a lovely cauliflower in Lidl yesterday - tho' Lidl has been short on broccoli here in Swansea for a few weeks, having said that I bought a pile reduced in Tesco last Friday & had all things broccoli all week.

Blimey - and here I am up to my neck in both cauliflowers and broccoli!

They have really grown well this year for me in my garden. (What has not grown well are the spring cabbages, which seem to be all leaves and no heart.)

Maybe I should have a market stall outside my house!

cabbage, not cauliflower.

As for cauliflower, I guess their is a shortage. About two weeks ago I was picking up two pretty generously cauliflowers for a quid and now they are one for £1.25.
