It was about someone high up in American politics whose wife was called Sarah who was kidnapped at a family party by a group of terrorists I think and held hostage.

I can't say how it ended because I never watched the show. I just remember it being advertised and the premise.

Vanished was about the kidnapping of a Senator's wife, and on Wikipedia I see the wife's name was Sara, so it is the right show. The OP must have just misremembered on what channel she saw it.
