Maybe not, but the only reason it jumped channels was to chase ratings.

New Tricks even on reruns can do ~4m.

Simon Schama's Shakespeare, albeit new, drew less than a million last week.

Especially as the tennis started on BBC Two it seemed a little odd to promote it to BBC One given Murray wasn't involved and it's only week 1. Now they have to fill time with an unscheduled repeat.

Andy Murray third on tomorrow unsurprisingly, and BBC1 have only got a throwaway film filler covering all of early prime time until 8:20.

I wonder how that will pan out?

It wasn't just about ratings. Displacing a repeat on BBC1 was preferable to displacing a new programme on BBC2. Not everyone has the red button or a computer - and New Tricks can be played out any time. Old News For You is better than New Tricks in my book anyway

So the Beeb junk a tired repeat in order to keep highbrow public service broadcasting in place, and they get criticised on here for chasing ratings?

I give up....

The World number 3 tennis player was two sets down in the third round, battling his way back to 2-2 and the match was poised for a fifth-set thriller. Benneteau had an apparent injury which sadly saw him fade away. And if we have to talk ratings Nadal's exit had nearly five million glued on BBC2 at 10 last night. Maybe I'm biased as a tennis fan, but it seemed the right decision to me.

I think its good if BBC One chase for ratings, why is it a bad thing? The BBC is there to serve the public and by putting this tennis on BBC one, its audience was maximised. It is good public service broadcasting. No one is going to cry over a New Tricks repeat being dropped, its repeated enough times anyway.

if they wanted to put people off prison, wouldn't they be better off, airing Corrie?

I think it would have a major impact on the male prisons.

This tennis thing, oops bad luck for the BBC guess the risk didnt pay off this time.

Exactly Sam, put me down as another who likes you
Although I'd call it "license-fee payers' attention-chasing". Doesn't quite have the same ring, though...

I think having a live tennis climax (with a potential 30 minute repeat) vs a 60 minute repeat, is good for the viewer, pretty soon everyone will have the red button option and such moves will not be necessary.

Had that 5th set been a nailbiter, ratings would have been very healthy = millions of happy viewers, of course it has now set a precedent and next week's New Tricks (and other repeat shows) could again get bumped.

CSI: Miami is moving to Saturday nights for its final season on Channel 5, beginning July 21.

The promo for the new season launched directly before The Bachelor UK, causing CSI to trend briefly in the UK.

And in mine but then i guess New Tricks is aimed more for the older demo anyway.

Saturdays for CSI, hope it doesnt clash against Casualty. Does this make it more likely that Person of Interest or Dallas will be shown on Tuesdays?

From bitter experience of CSI: NY scheduling in the winter, C5 would rather schedule Miami as late as 10.30pm if needs be than allow it to clash with Casualty. They run their entire Saturday schedule around that programme. Only exception is weeks where they have boxing and they have no choice but to schedule it at a similar time.

On Dallas, I literally have no idea where that's going to end up. Tough one to schedule IMO. I reckon Person of Interest will take the NCIS slot and Body of Proof will replace CSI: Vegas to keep the forensic theme going in that slot, but I'm only guessing.

you also dont mind that they are prisoners, most likely in prison for breaking the law, and most likely for something violent?

somehow CSI NY manages to avoid clashing with Casualty, but even if it does, it doesn't really matter now.

Going to make the later end of the year better, Doctor Who, CSI Miami, Casualty all good viewing.

There's no doubt it will get a 2nd season but it's not the massive success people thought it would be.”

Well TNT seem quite happy. They just officially renewed it.

Interesting. Reading 'analysis' on here this morning you'd think it was a flop and had no chance of coming back.

Good old TNT. Most shows on cable see growth from season 2 onwards anyway. There's a real catchup culture in the U.S. that we simply do not have here which fuels stronger performances later in a show's life.

well be careful, I wouldn't date someone who has been in jail for violent behaviour, no matter how hot she is.

yeah I knew about that one, not a massive fan of red button TBH, Ill watch but other than the one about Ruth in the mental hospital, few impress me.

Well tbh "Densino" did say it would get renewed.....
I do agree with him and I created an account to talk about Dallas....

It is a hit.....but not a major hit....it will wind up as TNT's 2nd(tied with Rizzoli and Isles) show of the week in the demo....

I am suprised it was renewed after only 3 episodes considering it's showing bug drops each week...

and yes, it does have big +3 numbers...but most tv show do.
Even alot of network shows that were cancelled this year had large +3 ratings.

Rizzoli and Isles seems to be TNT's most successful show in viewers, while Falling Skies is its biggest show in the demo...

Again reading here this morning, alot of people were not saying it was a flop... but the numbers are not massive.

Lots of websites, including TVBTN predicted close to 10 million viewers for the premiere... and yes TNT is cable, but cable show's are becoming more and more popular so it would not be a shock for a cable show to get 10 mill viewers (The Walking Dead, Hatfield and McCoy)

They are not massive no, but the numbers seem to be at a good level currently, and a recommission this early by the network is a great sign.

You mentioned The Walking Dead there. The ratings for Season 1 of that were not too dissimilar to the current ratings for Dallas. And even in Season 2 it didn't reach 10m which must be very rare on cable. See here.
