Excellent performance from ITV2/3/4 beating BBC2/3/4 all day share yesterday.
And star performer ITV3 beating Five in all day share and beating Five and BBC2 in primetime and drawing with Channel 4. ITV4 going great guns too. They need to extend the TdF coverage to the entire stage asap to build on their strong ratings in daytime. Not posting or reading much at the moment, less is more sometimes

quite a bit of drama going on at the Tour De France, maybe cycling is finally getting the break it needs as a sport

ITV1's current sales pitch to their advertisers.
Reading some of the stuff here is to have a glimpse into what it must be like in an old folks home and hearing the same guff repeated over & over. Someone complaining that ITV! scheduled a repeat of a sports quiz at 11.05pm on a Friday night against the Olympics |

Predictable as always. Seems to me it has been holding up as well this summer as last summer with growth from the Euro's in June.

I know it isn't a key battleground as such but surely logic says to air anything but sport against one of the biggest sporting (or linked to sport) moments of the year?

ITV line up is much stronger then BBC1, but doesn't get the ratings it deserves because as I said before ITV is for the young and BBC for the old.

Someone complaining that ITV! scheduled a repeat of a sports quiz at 11.05pm on a Friday night against the Olympics ![]() Me, I'm a BBC fan but by no means do I believe the organisation is above criticism. (BBC1 - too much soap, too much One Show, not enough adventurous TV. Although, given that its last piece of adventurous TV was the abysmal Planet Earth Live, maybe that's a good thing.) As for the scheduling of the sports quiz. Yes, the 11pm hour is not very important to ITV1, especially when the Olympic Opening Ceremony is on, but it's still not the sort of scheduling decision likely to give any concerned ITV1 fan much reassurance that the channel is in safe hands. (Obviously those ITV fans who think everything the channel does is god-like genius won't be worried in the slightest.) On the other hand, maybe with ITVs 2, 3 and 4 serving their target audience so well, ITV bosses are quite happy for 3m to become the default audience for ITV1 light entertainment shows. |

It is a difficult call for ITV and C4 whether they should continue business as usual or just surrender - but the problem is both seem to have already pretty much surrendered for the summer, C4 especially who despite launching a new repeats channel now have more repeats in primetime (certainly 10pm onwards) than I can remember from the last decade or so. I guess that's what you get from a "creative renewal". |

C4 are just as stupid - commission eight supposed Olympic specials of The Million Pound Drop and schedule six of them during the Olympics. Even the host wasn't willing to do them during the games so they are all pre-recorded. (Live in a 10pm slot with a few questions about the days events might just have worked!)

Obviously glossy American mini series have long since departed, but I think the two main commercial broadcasters should provide a decent alternative. Also would I be right in saying CBB starts during the Olympics? |

They should've had the Olympics first running into the normal run which could've aired across the Olympics. They could've also planned a couple of new dramas from 10pm (which could be watched on +1 at 11pm once Olympic action had finished). |

No, for all I love the Olympics, ITV and Channel 4 should provide an alternative for the millions that aren't interested. Now this makes me sound old but ITV provided a very valid alternative in 1976 with Rich Man, Poor Man, which achieved very good ratings.

And star performer ITV3 beating Five in all day share and beating Five and BBC2 in primetime and drawing with Channel 4. C5's Saturday performance leaves a lot to be desired right now as unlike ITV3 their offering is not consistent enough in who they are trying to target and there isn't enough meat to the bone. They're not quite getting away with old westerns by day, a show for 20 year olds by night. Next week is a new week and they will look to turn things around with the last ever season of CSI: Miami set to premiere. But lessons need to be learned for next year. |

I think BB13 finishes on August 6th (something like that) with CBB starting the night after though I'm not one hundred per cent sure.
It'll be the same week as last year, w/c 13th August. |

I still don't understand why ITV1 didn't hold Millionaire? back for the Olympics and just strip it across the three weeks. It would be light-hearted enough for the non-Olympic fans to follow and for Olympics fans to drop into during a quiet moment when they're talking in the studio on BBC One.
At least running repeats gives an idea at what ITV are aiming for. |

The trouble is, in two weeks time the main channel effectively becomes ITV3 which takes away that benefit, slicing ITV3's share in half and not doing much for ITV1's share either.

That would have been ridiculous, running a live show to run opposite the Olympics, nobody connected with the prodution bar the person in the chair would want to be involved, they'd probably struggle to get full audiences in the studio. The only people who would want to see that are those who like to talk about Millionaire's ratings in comparison with those of the 1998 series.

I'm still confused why ITV don't want to repeat Downton Abbey on ITV1. Would be the perfect opportunity to repeat it across two weeks on there at 20:30/21:00.
I can only assume the repeat fees for that are significantly higher than with other programmes. |

You'd think as well they'd have started a few series, whether factual, drama or otherwise, after Euro 2012 running for six weeks or so but getting a 3-4 week head start on the Olympics. I wouldn't run Downton night after night myself but I would repeat it weekly, though whether it would hold up like I think Doc Martin does on repeats or flop like Call the Midwife I don't know.

You can say it however many times you want but it isn't true. Look at the demographic info posted earlier in this thread. Even Antiques Roadshow gets more young viewers than most ITV programmes.

Do 'young' people watch tv in the morning? Aren't they at school/college/work/socializing/in bed?
I will say Minus Doctors and BBC News ITV1 has the better Daytime Line up but surely most of that skews old? A bit on NEXT Mondays EastEnders It's going to feature a Birth being done LIVE http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/e...l-play-1144275 |

No chance of it launching during the Olympics IMO.
It'll be the same week as last year, w/c 13th August. I wonder what BBC One and ITV1 have lined up after the Olympics for weeknights? Does anyone know? Obviously Doctor Who and The X Factor will be the draws at the weekend from late August.
