The Big Brother final is going to be on Monday 13th August with Celebrity Big Brother launching on Wednesday 15th August. I'm not sure if this helps with the CSI/Person of Interest speculation.

Goodness me. This week will surely be one of the biggest in recent history for C5 with all that going on. It's perhaps a little too busy, but ratings will surely range from strong to very strong across three consecutive nights.

I'd imagine there's a little flexibility over that CBB launch date and it could premiere on the Thursday, as, with the date being leaked this early, it opens up the possibility of a C4 spoiler.

If this is popular, I wonder if it'll spawn other shows for other clubs like TOWIE spawned Geordie Shore, Made In Chelsea and Desperate Scousewives.

Can't believe how poorly ALW new programme Superstar is doing.
I was expecting 5 to 6 million tbh. ITV must be very dissapointed. Though I can't say im incredibly suprised with that awful Amanda Holden hosting.

Interesting night of US cable yesterday. Still waiting anxiously for news on Breaking Bad, but USA's high-profile new series Political Animals could only muster 2.6m and 0.5 in the demo.

On the main networks, Big Brother was the top rated show of the night in the demo with 6.2m viewers (2.2) for CBS.

Breaking Bad, even with the network it's on AMC no longer broadcasting via one major cable provider following a carriage dispute, returned with its best ever viewing figures for its fifth and final season last night. 2.9m viewers and ~1.5 in the demo (previous best was 1.0):

This back to front format Superstar has got is a little weird, opening the show with the results, then a sing-off, then an elimination in the first 15 minutes, then back to normal performances for the rest of the show. It leaves the last 75 minutes as a bit of an anti-climax.

It is weird.

I guess they've done it because if they did it in the normal perform then results way they'd have to either do a separate results show or have a good 15-20 mins of filler for voting and counting the votes, and as it's already on for 90 mins a night they didn't want it to be any longer as it'd either end far too late or they'd have to mess Corrie around.

I can, they've stripped it of everything that was great about the BBC shows, the warmth, the amazingly cheesy sing out, the focus on the other aspects of the performance (acting etc), Graham Norton (and Shelia Hancock). It's now just X-Factor lite with a annoying personality-free host. It fully deserves the ratings it's getting.

Excellent figures for Dynamo. Over 3m+ adding all the figures up (but some of those could be repeat viewers). It's a shame this series hasn't been as good as the first series. It seems very padded with not much magic IMO. And don't get me started on some of the "tricks" I've seen. It's very much all filler, no killer which is a shame.

Superstar not doing well enough for the format and the stripped shows starting tonight. I think its safe to say - its another flop for ITV. Corrie did OK on Sunday, but Emmerdale's figure is disappointing. It's finally starting to pick up now after months and months of dross. I think it'll recover tonight though - probs around 6.5m.

To keep track in the event that Superstar grows, here is how it has performed so far:

07/07 - 3.04m (14.9%), +1: 172k (0.8%) => 3.21m (15.7%)
08/07 - 3.11m (13.1%), +1: 165k (0.7%) => 3.28m (13.8%)
14/07 - 2.89m (14.8%), +1: 124k (0.6%) => 3.01m (15.6%)
15/07 - 3.08m (13.2%), +1: 157k (0.6%) => 3.24m (13.8%)

With Blackout dropping massively last week, tonight is it's best opportunity for growth to at least ~3.7m including +1.

The only positive thing for ITV is that it is consistent, and has not dropped into a complete flop yet. Okay, it is not doing well, but when compared to other ITV shows so far this Summer, I am not sure it's enough to call it a flop.

If it doesn't grow though, then yes, it is a flop.

Worse ratings than last years Popstar to Operastar/Penn and Teller and yet it isn't a flop. and thats with 2 Corrie lead ins.

Is everything that rates higher than Let's get Gold now a hit?

Not true, Penn and Teller was in exactly the same ballpark as Superstar.

Popstar to Operastar started high - thanks to being placed in between the Britain's Got Talent final but dropped like a stone, the middle few weeks were in the mid 2m's.

Sums up Superstar's problems perfectly for me.

Seriously, ITV's scheduling department needs sacking. The idea of placing a show (which never really got spectacular ratings on BBC1) with a dull-as-dishwater judging panel, an absolutely dreadful host and a concept which is rapidly losing popularity and suffering from declining ratings, stripped out over nine consecutive nights in the summer is quite simply insane. I didn't even think ITV were that stupid. The auditions/boot camp were quite entertaining, but the live shows are so, so dull. At this rate, the show is going to end up with ratings sub-2 million, which would be ITV's biggest flop for a long, long time (and that is quite a feat considering the flops they've had over the past few months). I hope it dies an incredibly painful death. Serves them right.

They had a perfect opportunity last night to do a 2 hour show and get the elimination and performances in the right order.

It sounds a right mess and I haven't even mentioned Amanda Holden's presenting skills.

Quick calculation - on 19th February 2010, BBC Three had a ~7.6% primetime share, so no, not the highest!

To be fair Amanda isn't as bad as I feared and actually ran the show well in terms of keeping the judges comments to the point, but she's very much sticking to the script. No doubt about it now though it's a flop - impossible to spin those figures.


Some fairly random records there - I can understand ITV4 benefitting from the Tour, but nothing out of the norm on E4 and More4 on Friday and while ITV3 did superb on Saturday night it's not as if they haven't run that kind of schedule before. They're clearly picking up the ITV viewers giving ITV1 a miss though.

I don't think it can be denied that Superstar is a flop. They didn't strip this show over this many nights for ratings of only 3m.

People (chiefly ITV supporters) keep saying it will grow but all we've seen so far is minor fluctuations, even with Corrie lead-ins.

It's now or never if it is going to add a meaningful number of viewers to its tally, but at this point I wouldn't count on it. The structure of the live shows sounds very odd indeed.

They did last night but it's a bit different across the week. It's pretty tight for time as it is. Tonight they had the 10 contestants all performing individually, a group performance, last night's results, the sing-off and the elimination all in a 90 minute show including ads. It's a pretty fast paced show - you wouldn't think it aired on the same network as Dancing on Ice!

The show itself is fine. The staging and production is very good and looks better than the BBC shows did. It is a bit more X Factor like, although whether that's a good or bad thing is subjective really. The judges are OK - Andrew is actually pretty good and looks pretty comfortable in the role now. Dawn French is good value although Jason and Mel can be a bit dull (Jason was better tonight though). The talent is good although the less said about Amanda the better. She literally just reads from the autocue like a robot and lets the show down. Admittedly she doesn't actually do anything really wrong but she brings nothing to the role at all. Overall it isn't a bad show though and deserves to be doing better than it is.

The plus for Superstar is obviously that it hasn't dropped. But I'd have thought ITV would have been looking for it to be steady around 3.5m rather than 3m. The fact that it's summer and ITV Studios leaves some room for surprise but I don't think they'll try this again any time soon.
