I did predict a 7m launch for Superstar, on the basis it had an easy slot against a 30 year old film umpteenth showing, masses of publicity, the usual decent fluffing by the ITV PR team, and had good past form on BBC1. That it lost out, heavily, to Indiana Jones shows how bad it is has done.
I do wonder if the growing viewer ennui that enveloped The Voice had a knock-on effect with Superstar. Like the ground across most of the UK this "summer", we have now reached saturation point on the "Cowellised" talent formats. We can take no more, and millions decided not to bother.
On that front, I saw a contestant appeal for the next series of The Voice the other night. So it's definitely coming back then!
