The time delay on the Sydney Olympics was so great that results were appearing in the newspapers before NBC viewers saw them.

As someone said, Superstar is in the wrong slot. It is an 8.00pm-style programme. People expect drama and docs at 9.00pm.

Similar with WWTBAM - that should have been earlier.

ITV1 could have had 2 "event" weeks like they do with BGT.

The standard of singers on Superstar seems much higher than anything ive seen on X Factor.

The are counting Winter as well as Summer Olympics, I would expect the BBC to be still around in some form in 2020.

It was on at 8pm on Sunday with a Corrie lead-in and did little better than it's doing in its 9pm slot.

Yep, I don't think I've ever seen so many excuses for a ratings disaster. A show that clearly was made to be a big hit, and to help shows around it, is rating worse than those shows. It's been on all times with some good lead-ins and it's losing viewers.

Superstar was clearly an elaborate way of making the piss-poor ratings for the Olympic fortnight of Marple and Lewis repeats look better in the context of this week...

With Superflop tanking massively, BBC1 should get a nice boost for the EE and AbFab Olympic specials next Monday night, which will be a good start to the Olympic schedules.

What's ITV3 showing, btw, whilst ITV1 is airing its detectives-fest? Or will they just carry on airing Marples and Lewises even if ITV1 is doing the same?

Sign up to a nice long-term contract into the next decade, which I am sure will have been drafted as watertightly as possible by the BBC lawyers so that punitive penalties are payable to the IOC if some future Government wants to disband the BBC or turn it into "HBO-UK" before 2020...

ITV is having such a 'mare of a 2012 that Love Your Garden looks set to feature as one of the "highlights", if not "hits", in the end of year report at Christmas!

It's worked a treat! I've seen worse shows than Superstar. It has a few problems but I think the biggest one has been the scheduling of it.

I havent watched it; never watched the previous bbc1 show either; seems to be a solid 3m every night (apart from Tuesdays when all ITV viewers take their weekly night out). I'm sure they could schedule it 500 different ways and get the same ratings.

I did predict a 7m launch for Superstar, on the basis it had an easy slot against a 30 year old film umpteenth showing, masses of publicity, the usual decent fluffing by the ITV PR team, and had good past form on BBC1. That it lost out, heavily, to Indiana Jones shows how bad it is has done.

I do wonder if the growing viewer ennui that enveloped The Voice had a knock-on effect with Superstar. Like the ground across most of the UK this "summer", we have now reached saturation point on the "Cowellised" talent formats. We can take no more, and millions decided not to bother.

On that front, I saw a contestant appeal for the next series of The Voice the other night. So it's definitely coming back then!

I believe Robbie was imagining a penalty payable TO the IOC in the event of a planned Beeb disbandment, presumably binding future licence-fee payers to coughing it up. I can only imagine the Daily Mail's reaction if it discovered such a stink-bomb clause! Interesting idea, but the BBC wouldn't dare. The Trust would not have it, assuming they have access to commercial agreements.
