Sooooo pleased about Superstar. Hopefully this finally means the end of talent shows on ITV.. Outside of X Factor and BGT anyway! Although hopefully we'll see the end of those in a couple of years too.

The low ratings prove that people are just tired of this format.

Euro 2012 - England vs Italy
Euro 2012 final
Jubilee Concert
Wimbledon
Euro 2012 - England vs Sweden
Britain's Got Talent final

Also, I've been looking for ratings for the following programmes:

The first episode of Russell Howard's Good News which aired on 22 October 2009

The documentary on BBC Three called 'My Forced Unwanted Wedding' which aired on 19 September 2011

The documentary on ITV2 called 'One Direction: A Year in the Making' which aired on 23 November 2011”

Anyone able to provide ratings?

The only drawback is even if TXF and BGT fall badly in the ratings, ITV will dream up similar replacements that will do even worse. I dream for an era when reality shows and talent contests die forever, but in a very competitive television world these cheap, forgettable formats still make money.
Yet who the hell will really want to watch a re run of a reality show in thirty years time, will remember what Simon Cowell said to Joe Bloggs from Hartlepool on the third series of TXF, but millions still recall Del Boy falling through the hatch on Only Fools and Horses? I agree with your sentiments but this crap will probably go on forever as long as it makes money and some people watch it.

because that is what ITV3 is for

Nonsense comment as talent shows exsisted in the era of OFAH, just in the same way as scripted shows now exist alongside talent shows.

Does anyone know when Sherlock is back on BBC1?

No actual air date but Freeman say they're filming from January to April. So Summer 2013?

Did ITV have two 'ad breaks' without any ads, just promotion for ITV shows, towards the end of Superstar tonight (Wednesday)?

I only bring it up as STV had wall to wall promotions during the last 2 'ad breaks'.

Superstar was a shambles tonight. No clear direction, a seeming lack of ads and the Kaiser Chiefs performance was pre-recorded (a distinct lack of 'the Lord' gave it away) and appeared to be a last minute booking. Amanda Holden is not getting any better. This show deserves to flop!

I don't have them to hand (posting via phone) but you should find them by searching this thread and previous parts.

Well that should resolve everything...”

I suppose the argument is that Andrew Lloyd Webber gets to vote on two performances rather than just the one.

They've made a mess of Superstar from the start - the launch was stranded in the middle of risky programming and those who saw it obviously didn't spread the good news as even a Coronation Street lead in couldn't help it out. They deafened what viewers it had thanks to Amanda Holden yelling the narration and the whole show lost the warmth of the BBC predecessors. The set could be the new X Factor stage and Lloyd Webber has no elevation, camp, contrived or otherwise, above the other judges. The format had been similar to Australia's Got Talent, with the previous results occurring before the next set of performances, but I can see why that hasn't gelled with a British audience.

Superstar was probably the best chance ITV1 had of claiming a reasonable summer return and they've mucked it up. I fear for them next summer; it feels as though they've tried everything and nothing's stuck. If Dancing On Ice Goes Gold rates decently they'll probably try and air a spin off version to fill the summer months which will be bizarre to say the least - especially as the main show is showing signs of fatigue.

I note no reference to your false claim as to what I've supposedly stated regarding the +1 audience.

To me your use of +1 in relation to the current series of BB is like comparing the peak rating of one programme with the average of another.

Anyway, I look forward to your reporting and use of BBC1's, 2, 3 and 4's +1 figures.

Their LE department sucks...and has done for a good number of years now. I reckon some of the Execs etc have been there for years and have had enough time to prove themselves. A complete overhaul might be in order with that department

Tour de France Highlights averaged 917k on ITV4 (4.6%)

Victoria Pendleton: Cycling's Golden Girl averaged 2.8m at 9pm on BBC1

BBC3's Olympics' Most Amazing Moments averaged 1.2m at 10pm.

That way below where I expected BBC1 to be at 9pm, ought just win the slot though, excluding +1 channels.

#24Hours in AE attracted its highest ever overnight rating last night with 3.3m - winning the 9pm slot -- Channel 4 Press (@C4Press)
.............................................................................

That figure does include +1, last week it was only 2.12m (+1 581k) but still highly unexpected if it has pipped BBC1 excluding +1...someone here predicted C4 would win the slot...I did not think it would trouble BBC1 or ITV1...

I expected the Victoria Pendleton documentary to do better. Channel 4 did Well at 9pm but no rating for Superstar yet. Could it have come in second for slot?

Had a feeling the Vicky P doc would bomb. As good as it was (I'm biased, being infatuated by her... ), it didn't really scream out "flagship slot BBC1", more 10.35pm material like the other Olympics docs.

The TdF ratings are edging up, and there does seem to be now a more mainstream picking up of the impending British sporting triumph. I wonder if the highlights will break 1m tonight as today's stage will pretty much determine whether Brad wins the race or doesn't. (No spoilers this afternoon please!)

I don't think ITV though are really doing enough to promote this particular asset of theirs. One can't help feeling that when they acquired the rights it was to plug a gap on "Men & Motors" (aka ITV4) on the basis of "Minder repeats, Sweeney repeats, Touring Cars, what else would blokes watch - I know, stick some cycling on".

Still, I shouldn't complain. At least we have FTA coverage, and with it being a straightforward continuation of the excellent package produced for Channel 4 all those years rather than a dreaded "ITV Sport" in-house production, it does have an overall quality "feel" to it that is lacking elsewhere in the network's sport output - we could have had Rosenthal hosting it and Tyldesley & Beglin commentating...

Useless stat of the day:

8.4% for ITV2/3/4 and 8.4% for BBC2/3/4 yesterday.

ITV2 2.8%; ITV3 3.1%; ITV4 2.5%

BBC1 viewers are more likely to run over cyclists than cheer them on

NCIS deserved more for a great episode. I thought it might hit 2m with BBC One and ITV underperforming but in the end it fell well short of that. Disappointing.

C4 was the main beneficiary in the end with 24 Hours producing a standout audience.

Totally useless indeed - given BBC3 and 4 don't start broadcasting until 7pm. You'll need to add in CBBC and CBeebies to make it less useless

I suppose Ned Boulting who works on both football and cycling for ITV is exempt from your caustic criticisms?

I know we like to debate +1 here, C4 often seems to add 15%-20% with +1, I wonder if we could try a weekly +1 top 20 chart here....then again do we allow the +2/+2.5 showings of Eastenders??
