Best ever 2.9m from 24 Hours in A&E makes Channel 4 no.1 as big guys struggle in key 9pm slot, ITV's Superstar 2.7m, BBC1 Olympics doc 2.8m -- Liam Hamilton (@LiamHamiltonDCD)
..............................................................................

So Channel 4 1st, BBC1 2nd, ITV1 3rd, Channel 5 a likely 4th and the BBC2 repeat bound to be 5th.

3.3m incl +1 for 24 hours. Very impressive.

If you had a top 10 +1 chart for the latest BARB week (w/e 8th July - just ITV/C4/C5 based ones), it would be:

1 - 653k - 24 HOURS IN A & E (WED 2201) - C4
2 - 579k - CORONATION STREET (SUN 2030) 579 - ITV1
3 - 538k - THELMA'S GYPSY GIRLS (SUN 2202) - C4
4 - 534k - FILM: ST TRINIANS 2: THE LEGEND OF FRITT (SUN 2001) - C4
5 - 510k - GORDON BEHIND BARS (TUE 2201) - C4
6 - 411k - THE BIG BANG THEORY (FRI 1929) - E4
7 - 387k - EMMERDALE (SUN 1959) - ITV1
8 - 382k - CORONATION STREET (MON 2130) - ITV1
9 - 374k - EMBARRASSING BODIES:LIVE FROM THE CLINIC (TUE 2059) - C4
10 - 361k - THE SIMPSONS (FRI 1902) - C4

Their French Open coverage was also very impressive

See that is why D.M.N. has so much respect here from numbers geeks like myself thanks for doing that, cheers.

ITV1 adds around 5%-7% to top shows, admittedly from a larger base figure. E4 is very impressive along with C4, those kids really know how to use their EPG efficiently.

As the nation's flagship and most watched channel, and the one that offers the broadest range of programming for the most diverse demographic, and with the widest reach of any network, you are casting a slur over the entire nation there George!

If anyone was mowing down cyclists, it would probably be the tattooed white van man chavs of ITV2, busily posting a status update on their chavphone whilst a poor cyclist nips up the inside at the lights....

Ned's a good lad. If the ITV Sport bigwigs had any sense they'd make more use of him then.

It's basically "Grandstand" but 7 days a week.

Don't get me wrong, ITV4's a good channel.

The best of the ITV bunch I reckon. I could live without the other 3...

If Wiggins gets over the final mountain stage today, does anybody think ITV will switch the final stage in Paris over to ITV 1 on Sunday afternoon?

“Volunteers will take MDMA, the pure form of Class A drug ecstasy, as part of a groundbreaking scientific study to be shown on two new Channel 4 science programmes, Drugs Live: The Ecstasy Trial. A UK television first, the 2 x 60-minute programmes will include recorded footage of part of the scientific study alongside a live debate exploring issues around the controlled drug. The programmes follow Channel 4's successful Surgery Live in 2009.”

Anyone for ratings grabbing???

Ugh, if anything should have been on at 9pm on BBC1 it was that. A brilliant piece of film making. The BBC at its best.

Any rating yet for The Wrestlers? The fact 24 Hours in A&E did well bodes well for it.

GeorgeS says no, on the basis they want ITV4 to have its day in the sun.

But I do have my doubts. They are they to make money, as George keeps telling us, and a Brit winning the Tour on the back of the all-conquering British Cycling/Sky team's efforts, in this of all great British years, and appealing to an upmarket demographic too, surely demands putting this seminal moment out on your biggest network?

And potentially denting the F1 and Golf a bit more too for good measure?

Maybe that's what they are scared of - the F1 and Golf squishing the cycling, and are hoping that the Sunday afternoon non-sporting fare for housebound pensioners rates better?

I wonder if it's a contractual thing and they can't actually move it from ITV4 although you might think they would have a word with the organisers.

True, but the competition couldn't have been any softer.

In other news, The One Show seems to be struggling to regain the audience it had before its summer break. Just 3.4m last night.

Meanwhile, Fake Britain could only muster 2.8m viewers at 7.30pm.Hopefully, BBC1 will start to rethink this recent policy of repeating cheap daytime programmes in peak.

Yeah ! i too noticed that blunder.

Also, if their income from Sky for the HD service is based on ratings, they'd want to optimise that, although Sky would like the free product placement on ITV1.

Big weekend for sport, not just The Open, F1 and TDF, but also the first Test between England and South Africa.

Good that each event gets 100% coverage and not the switching between that we used to get in the bad old days.

NOTE:

It looks like ITV have had a touch of common sense. The last 2 stages of the Tour de France will be on ITV1 on Saturday and Sunday.

Makes sense.

And proves George doesn't know what he's talking about, even when it concerns his own employer!

And right on cue...

difficult to see the badge when you are lying there bleeding. At least with the TdF they keep it real by having the cars chase the bikes there too.
