Well, if it's getting nowhere near what many ITV shows get when it's on every day then it must surely be a flop because it's stopping many potentially more popular programmes from getting on. It seems bizarre that after being stripped every night too it wasn't on Saturday or Sunday which is surely when people are used to watching shows like that and they don't have to mess around with the news.

I think the friendly on Friday and next Thursday's opening game for the GB men (the day before the Olympics officially begins) go out on BBC1 cos it's Summer and what else are BBC1 going to put on?*** Easy way to fill the schedule.”
Yeah, I'm assuming that as of Thursday most people will stop being that bothered about Olympic football, but these matches have some selling points as a) the first Olympic events and b) the novelty of Team GB. After that they'll be somewhat swamped by the more traditional Olympic sports. Incidentally I don't think football should be in the Olympics for the same reason as Gordon Strachan pointed out - it's insulting to the other Olympians who have trained for their entire lives for this moment to be alongside people who were picked to take part a month or so ago because they're at a loose end,

Well, the final stage of the Tour de France is a bit underwhelming anyway because it's largely ceremonial, and it wasn't billed in the TV guides either.
I seem to recall someone here in May suggesting nothing would beat the excitement of Chelsea winning the Champions League Final, which everyone's long forgotten about now. What I liked yesterday was that there was a Grand Prix on and nobody cared, which should illustrate the dangers of going off terrestrial TV - though the F1 calendar has been atrocious this year, clashing with the Wimbledon Men's Final, the last day of the Open, the last day of the Tour de France and the Olympics, which are all big news all over Europe and the rest of the world.

Meanwhile Countryfile got over five million in a heatwave! That's brilliant!
The thing about these DoI specials is that, dread word though it is, a lot of the interest comes from the "journey" of the contestants and so if they just do one show nobody really cares. That's why I think the Strictly Christmas show is always better when it's a Champion of Champions rather than new celebs as you know and like those taking part. Also if it's months after the series, like the Christmas DoI was in 2008, it seems less vital than immediately after, like the Christmas Strictly, when the bandwagon's still rolling - same as when they did Strictly African Dancing the other year.

BBC One fared much better with its Indiana Jones film, The Last Crusade (4.1m/24.5%) kicking off the evening at 6.30pm, after which Casualty grabbed 4.39m (21.6%), and a repeat of Mrs Brown's Boys amused 3.74m (22.2%) at 10.30pm.”
Impressive though Mrs Brown's (inexplicable) ratings are, kudos for Indiana Jones for again getting massive audiences for the millionth screenings. A lot of the ITV problems on Saturday night can surely be down to the inconsistency, there are two Cube specials and they can't even put both of them at the same time.
