Fox have just announced they have signed Mariah Carey for American Idol.

Nice little moneyspinner for Mariah....AI still huge over there and Fox and Fremantle can raise millions from advertisers and sponsors that can't be made here in such numbers ...

ITV could benefit from Olympic overkill. For the large part that want to see the Opening Ceremony and perhaps the 100m Final or something with a British medal hope...the rest?

I don't think people will bother, they'll be sick to the teeth of the constant BBC coverage broken up only by the news.

Saturday Night all night and every other night...Olympics...there's only so many 'moments' people can bother with before the whole 'whats on the other side breaks through'

Of course, I fear ITV will simply give in and show even more rubbish than usual.

cant help but wonder how well this "live episode" will do compared to the previous one, 7 milllion seems low in comparison, but with the show how it iis at the moment. Nice bit of TV however, and a brave decision to let Lola give birth live.

Well the BBC didn't trail it but it got a mention on News at 6.
Loads of trends on Twitter (Enders UK Number 1&2) and a couple worldwide. 7 million i think will be about it but the 10:30pm showing could do very well.

EastEnders loves to take a risk when LIVE but the actress that plays Lola did very well (infact they all did)

agree, for what was a genuine moment for everybody on the set I didnt see anyone calling Billy, Perry or anything like that.

I bet a few corks are popping on Albert Square as we speak.

Yeah. Nothing went wrong at all and i know a few were worried about the live scenes. The Birth was done really well and everything seemed togo to time.

I think Albert Square is going to see a massive party tonight

I think EE will do a bit better than it has been doing, but not a massive improvement, I know most people on my twitter who don't normally watch were watching and praising it, which is a good sign.

I thought it was great, not the best acting I've seen but a great sense of community and captured the excitement brilliantly.

Eastenders was great tonight. Seemless live part of the episode.

Doubt it will do much to the ratings though with the lack of promotion and weather.

There's plenty of that in EastEnders now

EDIT-Both eps of EastEnders are on I player already.

It all depends, I can't see pistol shooting or Graeco Roman wrestling getting many viewers, but anything with a British medal hope that is more accessible to the general public will do well. The names Murray, Daley, Wiggins, Adlington, Oglouhou( think I've got this right) should pull in big audiences and even taekwondo's star, Sara Stevenson, seems to be trending a lot better than a martial arts player normally does.

yeah it really showed what the Olympic Torch should be able to do to a community, however that is the most community spirit with have ever seen in EastEnders, and that is because of the real world event that was unfolding infront of both our eyes, and that of the actors, it was maybe more the community of the cast and crew, as it was the community of Walford, which is not to say that there was plenty of that as well.

Eastenders was great tonight - the live segment was done very cleverly. Ab Fab however was bizarre, a poor follow up to the Christmas and new year specials, so I expect that to have lost a number of viewers across its slot

This week the DS Ratings Prediction Game is having a twist...instead of predicting ratings we're going to be predicting when a media site actually publishes them.

Which may be easier, but alas, more boring. Instead, in this blind prediction week we're predicting how the likes of the EastEnders Special, Absolutely Fabulous, Bert and Dickie, Britain's Greatest Gold Medallists, Olympic Football and a certain Opening Ceremony will perform next week so why not have ago?

Click HERE for more details and to predict.

Good luck and thanks to all those who take part.

Well the consensus on Twitter is that the Olympic Ceremony is going to be absolutely incredible! Not a negative word about it and lots of 'greatest thing I've ever seen' type comments.

And news tonight Muhammed Ali takes part - im very excited. I just pray it doesn't rain, as is currently forecast.

Maybe but most of the minor events will be on BBC3/4 I think with the more popular sports on the main channels.

Ofcourse its all down to preference.

how can you have a ceremony celebrating all things British, if it doesn't rain? one of things that binds us all together be we BBC viewers or ITV viewers is our rubbish weather, as evidence, by the factoring in of weather into peoples rating guesses.

I thought EastEnders was very well done. The "Here we go" and wink at the camera as they switched to live was perfect and there was a real sense that it was a special moment for the actors in real life too as they saw the flame appear and this was their moment with the torch.

The pictures coming out of the opening ceremony rehearsal are incredible and as has been mentioned the buzz is 100% positive, people even saying they were in tears. And they only got to see up to 10.30pm - everything after that... the parade, flags, speeches, end to torch relay, cauldron, finale and fireworks was all held back. Really looking forward to it.

Dancc I don't think you are going to be very happy, Radio Times has downgraded Channel 5 from its main Channel status (just for the Olympics I assume) and dumped it on the Freeview Page. BBC3 has been upgraded to the Main Channel page and is oddly between 1 and 2. It also has a huge 16 day TV Guide on everything Olympics which looks like a mini version of the main Magazine.

Latest weather forecast says it will star raining a hour before the opening Caremony starts on Friday.

Peak audience of 7.9m saw the Olympic torch arrive in Walford

#TomDaley: Diving for Britain averaged 3m viewers at 10.30pm #Olympics #BBC1

I'm not feeling the EE love. Maybe it's my Northern roots but I thought it was hilarious. Clearly not intentional

Decent enough for Ab Fab given it was a hot July night. It got an overnight of 7.5m I think post Sherlock on NYD, so a mere dip of 2m is acceptable. Good 8m peak for the Torch in EE.
