NBC are happy to lose 250 million dollars just on the Olympics? Doesn't sound like a recipe for success...

8.8m average for Spain narrow triumph v portugal in 1st #Euro2012 semi, comfortably biggest audience of night. Peak 13.5m. Corrie No2, c.7m

From Liam Hamilton on Twitter
Wow! Huge peak! I think I've really under estimated the Final now on Sunday on the RPG!

Massive numbers for the first semi final.

ITV will be hoping for similar success with their game tonight.

Oh, hang on...

NBC messed around with the Sydney Olympics and time-delayed it so much results were appearing in newspapers before they were shown on NBC
Some of it was delayed by 19 hours

Is that it?

A "slow burner" of a campaign then?
The full thing is coming on Sunday apparently.

Will anyone manage to score in the football in normal time? These 0-0 games don't sound the most exciting affairs.

At least some goalscoring can be expected tonight I think.

'Magicians', 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' axed by BBC, ITV
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/news/...y-bbc-itv.html

The BBC magic show was pants, but I thought the Penn & Teller one had potential.

Only 1.08m excluding +1 for BB. Ouch. I know it faced penalties but still! +1 couldn't have added much.

Perhaps it will do better tonight after a 3-0 result in 90 minutes

I didn't say 3-0 to who! Actually I don't mind who wins tonight, although as I don't want Spain to win the final, I suppose I have got to favour a German victory.

Ooh listen to me, I sound like a pundit.

Because ITV prioritised picking guaranteed England and Ireland group games. It slightly backfired though as both Ireland games underperformed in comparison to WC 2002 and WC1994 and were didn't meet the predictions they had given advertisers.

I think the end of the tournament will always get more viewers than the start because these things gain momentum like a snowball. I have to say The BBC seems to have got the better deal out off the Euros this time.

ITV have unveiled the 4 studios they have built overlooking Olympic Park. They've put them on top of Westfield.

http://www.itv.com/news/london/2012-...-olympic-park/

Home to 70 journalists, four studios will house ITV News, London Tonight, ITV Regional News teams and ITN International.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Daybreak use the ITV News studio as well. London Tonight will be hosted from the park each night and I expect ITV News probably will too.

And just to clarify from yesterday's post - the BBC will be inside the Olympic Park (reusing the World Cup 2010 studio) for BBC1/3 coverage and BBC News at Ten will hosted from a studio on top of an apartment building overlooking the park.
The first teaser trailer for the BBC London 2012 coverage:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxqgiUh1Gbc

And just to suppliment the above - the BBC and Al Jazerra are broadcasting from flats which have been converted into studios here:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Denn...8.47,,0,-22.52

BBC News Channel, BBC World and BBC News on BBC1 will all be hosted from these studios (with BBC World relocating for 30 minutes to allow BBC London to use their studio).

NBC will have two huge indoor studios in the IBC and an outdoor location, possibly for The Today Show in the park, at Park Live East.

The main BBC studios will be next to McDonalds at World Square, the other international broadcasters requiring their own studios closeby.
Conclusion: The studio's are just about anywhere, in some bizarre places!

Super peak for Portugal vs Spain. Round-up coming soon...

Why don't they just play 30 minutes of extra time and go straight to the penalty shoot-out, would make it much more interesting and allow us to get to bed in reasonable time

Excellent for BBC1 with the football last night, considering the first part clashed with CS. It bodes well for the final.

ITV are cutting costs, Daybreak and Coronation Street specifically mentioned:

ITV shows including Coronation Street and Daybreak have been ordered to tighten their belts in a wide-ranging cost-cutting exercise.

The broadcaster has asked producers on every ITV Studios programme to trim their budgets by 1.5%, while Network staff are facing more strenuous cuts of 4% – although the Network programme budget will not be cut and it is unlikely that jobs will go.

ITVS insiders said they were informed that overheads must be reduced across the board, but that there has not been much guidance on where the axe should fall, meaning these decisions are being left to staff on the ground.

The initiative also encompasses shows that ITVS produces for other broadcasters, such as Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me, meaning they will immediately become more profitable.

It is thought ITVS could look for savings in areas such as crewing up and negotiating better terms with equipment and service suppliers.

One ITVS source described staff reaction to the news as “sanguine”, arguing that the 1.5% target is achievable. There is said to be some relief that the production division does not have to apply the tougher 4% cuts to its shows.

Another insider said the savings were significant enough to make a cumulative difference without being draconian and appearing like an impossible task. “ITV Studios was given the edict to find the money, so it needs to find the money,” the source said.

“There has always been a suspicion among Network that it was being overcharged by Studios. That relationship is getting better – but only slowly.”

ITV has already flagged in its annual results that it plans to make efficiency savings of £20m this year, and chief executive Adam Crozier has made cost-cutting a continuing priority for the broadcaster.

He has challenged employees to “drive out waste and complexity” following the £20m savings delivered last year.

Crozier’s determination to keep a tight grip on costs was credited with helping ITV post a 13% increase in earnings before interest, taxes and amortisation to £462m in 2011. This ensured it ended the year in its first positive net cash position since 2004.

An ITV spokeswoman said: “As we said earlier this year, we continue to improve our cost efficiency across the business, but this has no impact on our investment in content, or the Network programme budget.”
