Meh, not a massive fan of Shearer myself, but apart from Keane ITV has the worse pundits/presenter/commentary team in history. Tyldesley ridiculous hyperbole, Chiles being Chiles, and Townsend and Southgate, WTF have they got jobs for. Inarticulate, bland, average players, never done anything in management.

At least the Beeb pundits were very good players, and people have recognition of them.

The first set of YouView boxes are made by Humax who have got a good reputation for this sort of thing.

Not quite. Although ITV3 did manage to beat C5 in primetime and was only slightly behind C4. From DS:

Quote:
“Overall, BBC One led the way in primetime with an impressive 38.8%, obliterating ITV1 which had a miniscule 6.5% (+1: 0.3%). BBC Two earned third place with 5.9%, ahead of Channel 4's 4.5% (+1: 0.7%), ITV3's 4.3%, and Channel 5's 3.6% (+1: 0.5%).”

It's good news for ITV that when the main channel performs really badly a lot of their viewers migrate to their digital channels, showing there is some brand loyalty there.

But I don't think it's terrible news for C4/C5. The total share for the C4 and C5 group of channels was probably up or about the same as a typical Sunday, whereas ITV's total share would be well down even with ITV2/ITV3 performing really well.

Yes, I have the current top Humax box, the HDR FOX-T2. It's an excellent bit of kit.

I will replace it in a heartbeat with the new Youview model when it is released.

ITV are in a tricky situation. They might now consider going back to their 2008 strategy and just dropping the final: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008...tv.television1

They seem to be suggesting from that it's only the chance of England competing in the final that makes them show it, but even if England did ever reach the final, it would still be 6:1 BBC.

Out of interest, having seen that ITV rating for the Euro Final, does anyone remember the audience figure that they predicted for the Final themselves and how it compares to the actual figure?

In Spain it was 15.5m (83.4%) peaking at 17.889m. Article says it's the highest rated football match of all time but doesn't go as far as saying it's the highest rated programme of all time, it seems to suggest that it's the third highest of all time.

Wow, the Lewis repeats are doing brilliantly for ITV3. Not far behind the football coverage shown on ITV1 yesterday!

I fully expected an ITV thrashing, but I just don't get the slagging of their coverage. Give me Chiles, Keane and Southgate over Hansen, Shearer and Lawrenson any day.

I do believe ITV should give up airing the final against the BBC though. Regardless of how much advert revenue they may have earnt last night, those figures are humiliating.

Terrific for BBC1's coverage of the final, but ITV should just give up as they did dreadfully. Some comfort for them that ITV2 and ITV3 did so well across the weekend though. Lewis repeats in particular did incredibly well and Mamma Mia and Benidorm also did really well yesterday. A new high for Hollywood Nights too, for some bizarre reason.

Also, just noticed that Love Actually got 868k on Friday. That's really good considering they only aired it last Saturday and it averaged 1.2m then! So basically it's averaged over 2m across two screenings within a week. Very good going. I remember they didn't air it at Christmas, so they must have temporarily lost the rights and must have recently got them back. Clearly a very popular film. Not exactly very seasonal for the middle of Summer though!

If ITV's bosses were Japanese, they would close the network down in shame and commit ritual hari-kari.

Wow, what a trouncing and possibly ITV's biggest ever humiliation. "Join our winning team" they said. LOL!

Biggest bunch of losers in TV history.

No better endorsement from the public, who want free live football on the BBC, you could possibly hope for. Thompson and Patten should take note - THIS is public service broadcasting, events that bring the nation together, not highbrow Shakespeare plays attracting an audience you could fit in a heavily subsidised theatre.

We're talking about two completely different things here though - programmes that bring the nation together and programmes that a broadcaster of the BBC's nature should do.

The Shakespeare programming fits into two. As does all of the BBC Four programming.

Very well said. Although they do need a bit of both.
