I reckon the global audience for the British GP will be dented less by the overlap than the Mens Final will be. The F1 has the advantage of starting first.

So it's the All England old farts who will have questions to answer from sponsors, not Bernie. Yes, of course the UK audience will be hit badly, but that won't bother the FIA and the sport's backers from a global perspective.

I have worked out how ITV could beat the BBC at the world cup final this time round. They just need to play bit's of Brian Moore over the game.

The ideal scenario would be for Federer/Murray to start in the open air, win a game each or something, taking it to about 2:15, and then the rain comes! The roof closure process begins, and play resumes at about 3:00, giving the F1 chance to finish. Bingo.

In terms of lead-in and competition it had a lot going for it. It also has big names in different fields that I thought if would have seen it to at least 4m.

I do agree with you that I have no idea what the show is actually about and haven't seen it advertised.

Interesting that C5 beat C4 handily last night (whether inc or exc +1) despite Marco's flop.

It is the F1 that moves its races all over the calendar. Wimbledon is always the same two weeks. So it is Bernie & Co. that got it wrong.

Last year the Wimbledon final rated 5.49m (45.3%) on BBC One (+140,000 on BBC HD) between 1pm and 5.30pm.
British Grand Prix rated 4.89m (43.1%)

Could we see 3.5m average for the Grand Prix and an 8.0m average this year for Wimbledon?

If Wimbledon averaged 5.5m without Murray, I would suggest doubling that if he looks like winning it. If it is a straight sets Fed victory then 8m is likely.

Wimbledon is fixed in the diary last week of June first week of July....the date of the British Grand Prix seems to move.

Err last year the British Grand Prix was 10 July a week after Wimbledon finnished.

That was the 3D simulcast - pretty impressive actually, didn't think there were so many sets out there, especially a year ago.

Will this give any indication as to how this years final will rate? I think it could certainly top the 7.4 million average, maybe 10? Hard to say.

My first port of call this morning was C4 Sales which revealed the all-day share for yesterday was 4.5%, up 0.5 share points on the previous Thursday. So all seemed good at that point.

It seems the damage caused by Marco was cancelled out by improvements elsewhere.

How ignorant - Wimbledon always begins between the 20th and 26th June, so isn't later this year.

To be fair to F1 it's not unusual for the British Grand Prix to be around this weekend too - but when they have a number of dates on which they could schedule it scheduling it one the day of one of the biggest sporting events not just in Britain, but around the world, is rather short sighted.

Well done Jeff Ford, who has correctly identified that Jay Hunt has screwed up C4 news, and that its audience is now there for the taking.

If you seriously believe last night's out of the ordinary episode, featuring a naturist hotel, had no bearing on the out of the ordinary ratings, let's resume this discussion next Friday morning.

Currently the 7pm hour on Channel 5 is just repeats, it'd be good for them to develop either hour long or two half hour programmes for that slot as it would definetly boost the rest of the schedule.

Next week's HI is against the rescheduled The Men who Made us Fat, Case Sensitive, Bank of Dave and When I Get Older so I think it'll be slightly down, what did CS get last year?

I didn't say it had no bearing, did I? It's been widely received as one of the best / funniest ever episodes of the programme so of course that has a bearing.

But I dunno how it can be called a "freak" rating when it's rated at that level a few times before. The naturist angle wasn't pushed at all in promotional trailers for the show, so you had to seek out that info on the programme guide or listings. It makes sense to lead with an episode like that to get people talking more than anything else and get the series off to the best possible start to increase the likelihood that viewers return the following week.

It's perfectly possible there were other reasons for the rise. Thursday nights in Q3 is an altogether different proposition to Monday nights in Q4. And Alex may have won over some new viewers after her recent very successful BBC Two series.

Since 1998, I believe the Wimbledon Men's final has only clashed on one other occasion with the British Grand Prix, that was July 7th 2002, BBC1 had Wimbledon and ITV1 had the F1. Neither show made their respective channel top 30's.

I wonder if Alex will continue HI along with The Fixer, I'm sure she could do both, that's assuming the Fixer is renewed for another series.

It seems she can fit both in for the moment, which is good news for viewers of both shows.

She's appearing on The Wright Stuff on Thursday morning so maybe she'll reveal more about that then.

What I want to know is, what happened to those episodes they filmed abroad last year?

I love the Hotel Inspector, it's my favourite show on Five - and I think Alex is fantastic.

But I reckon the "naturist" aspect added a good 300 - 400k on to last night's audience.

It may have been boosted a bit more due to the absolutely dire offering on ITV1.
