I think England played in the following match so they opted for extended build up on ITV1.
Of course, this isn't the same as them moving the clashing matches to the digital channels because they physically can't show both, and before the digital channels they didn't show them at all. Up until 1994, too, matches were often played at the same time and some just weren't shown at all, or just the second half, the 1998 World Cup was the first time every match, within reason, was live. Indeed in the 1990 World Cup England vs Holland was played at the same time as Scotland vs Sweden - in different groups, and not the final group games either - so BBC1 showed the whole of the England game live then the second half of Scotland on a delay. Similarly the Beeb are allowed to show matches on BBC2 if they want because that counts. |

Big Brother getting front page headlines because apparently one of the housemates is on suicide watch and another one has been racially abused, according to the newspaper. Controversy like this might increase its ratings.

As for Big Brother and racially abuse, as sad as it is to think like this, it will never top the very racial abuse witnessed in a previous series, and it just looks like C5 attempting to recapture what they believe to be Big Brothers glory days. |

No the "suicide person" is not out of the house.
She said it as a passing comment, she apologised for her "flippant comment", so the news stories are over exaggerating things completely. How OTT. And Deana is being BULLIED, not racially abused. I don't think anything has been said by Conor that has been racist, he's just a nasty bully (and should be out). |

forgive me I did not know the gender of the person involved.
whatever the exact details are, Channel 5 are being irresponsible keeping him in the house. I am not Dancc but ive said alot good about Channel 5 on this thread, but I have nothing good to say about them and Big Brother. I think this series has been brilliant, but agreed that he should have gone. What's more depressing is that he us going to survive tomorrows eviction because his opposition (the one with the suicide thing) has shot herself in the foot a lot this week. |

It won't make one bit of difference to ratings because the "casual audience" C5 were so eager to dump the loyal fans for just are not there, so nobody but the same 1.324631m who watch the show everynight has anything invested in the HMs, so no concern whether they kill themselves or each other. Despite Salv eagerly waiting each day to see if things get better ultimately BB's ratings aren't budging - they are what they are.
![]() I can say the same for the constant BBC vs. ITV obsessive people on here, but I don't. And obviously they do budge, from 1.2m one week and 1.5m the next, that is a rise of around 20%. If EE had a 20% rise in ratings, there would be 12 pages of it. |

I know we generally discuss TV, but something I found fascinating in the Chris Moyles/Nick Grimshaw interview this morning was to hear that Radio 1 made the announcement yesterday without Nick Grimshaw signing a contract. I don't think I've ever heard of that before. Seems a bit risky to me.
Interesting also to hear Ben Cooper say on Five Live he expects the audience to "churn" but not necessarily fall, citing ratings for afternoons with Edith and Colin actually going up when many predicted it would fall, and that he wanted this to happen asap so a younger presenter would be in place for the new academic year starting. |

I'm starting to sense the Opening Ceremony ratings could be rather lower than expected. As we get closer there seems to be a growing amount of anti-Olympic feeling. It's not something which feels to me as popular with the general public as the jubilee for example.
We shall see... |

I don't know where you're finding that. Just look at the Torch relay - the crowds have been 20 deep in some towns.
Even the most sceptical will still watch anyway. |

Wow Marco Pierre White is a HUGE flop for Channel 5.
Hotel Inspector is surprisingly Channel 5's top show of the night...didn't realise it was popular Big brother loosing a bit of steam, under 1.3 million for 2 nights in a row |

We shall see... Also what is 'lower than expected'? If the peak is not 22m+ - I will be very surprised. The 9:00pm-12:30am slot could average 17m-20m if it is done the right way. |

C4 had a worse night than C5 even with Kitchen Wars dragging the latter down massively. It's the finale next week and they are promoting it so I suspect it will bounce back a little next week. Still been the channel's biggest ratings disaster of the year though, no question about that.
On the positive side, that's another excellent rating for The Hotel Inspector. This looks like being the highest rated series of the show for some time, possibly ever. It would be nice to see these first two episodes timeshift above 2m. |
