Yes, ITV have done extremely well with their Tour de France coverage but when they took it on it was only getting coverage on Eurosport, and it was a while before they started doing live coverage as well as highlights. In addition to the cost of the rights, the difference between the Open and their other sporting events is that they would also need to be the host broadcaster and not just supplement the world feed. ITV may want to put more sport on ITV4, but ITV4's budget isn't big enough to take on the Beeb and Sky.
The Open would be an awful choice anyway as it's too big for ITV4 but not big enough for ITV1, it's the ideal sport for mostly BBC2 with a BBC1 climax.

Saying that makes it sound like BBC1 were completely devastated but New Tricks was only about 300k behind the brand new Case Sensitive and McIntrye presumably thrashed everything at 10.35, so for a half-arsed repeat-stuffed night (which is only expected in this no-man's land between the Euros and the Olympics) that worked out OK for BBC1.

I had wondered if the lead-in would have buggered up Angelos but it actually got quite a decent one, although I don't know how much audience crossover there'd be. It was amiable enough but I think Angelos might work a bit better in small doses, this didn't really give us much we didn't already see in the pilot, and I dunno how repetitive it's going to be.
I like how yesterday we got the last in the series of The Million Pound Drop and on Friday we get the first in a new series of The Million Pound Drop. I know it's a bit different because it's all celebrities and not live but it looks stupid, the changes are minimal as far as the viewer's concerned. Next Saturday's scheduling is ridiculous, seven o'clock with a post-midnight repeat. Why are C4 wasting new programmes there?

Robbie's right, that does look a bit daft, though with no regional news I hope they do a handover, like when Michael Buerk used to say "Newsnight is over on BBC2", and nod his head as if in the direction of BBC2. I used to love that. It might have made more sense to put something between the two and have Newsnight at eleven.

Good old ITV. What better time to put on a sports show?

Yes, these Superstar ratings are appalling and you'd have to hope for their sakes that the stripped shows pull in a bit of excitement. But it was never going to be that much of a hit, certainly not enough to justify stripping, as the Lloyd Weeber shows were never really at the top tier of BBC1 shows and were probably declining when they stopped doing them there, and there's been a long gap since the last one.
