Dancc's right - it's always difficult when you first join the game. You soon get to spot patterns in ratings which makes things easier. Please persevere with it; it will get better, I'm sure.

You will be give a random opponent, and versus that person 'one to one' you can get extra points as well as regular point scoring, Fudd or Dancc could explain it clearer - in short it is bonus week.
