Was posting a load of Olympics related info in the Ratings thread and realised it might be better suited here?

I'll repost a few things I've found over last few days.

The Media Centre has now opened - the scale of which is incredible - almost 30,000 media working on the games from 190 different countries.

NBC has chartered Boeing 777 and is starting to fly its 2,700 staff in. They will have 2 purpose built studios in the park and will pretty much broadcast 24/7. They've even got permission for an NBC airship in the Olympic Park.

    Some NBC promos:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUVHbB60BOg
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWPrW9Akcdg

There will be surprise gigs at Olympic venues during the games, with Scissor Sisters and Rizzle Kicks first to be confirmed - presumably they will feature on BBC coverage?

ITV have unveiled the 4 studios they have built overlooking Olympic Park. They've put them on top of Westfield.

    http://www.itv.com/news/london/2012-06-27/london-tonights-new-home-at-the-olympic-park/

Home to 70 journalists, four studios will house ITV News, London Tonight, ITV Regional News teams and ITN International.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Daybreak use the ITV News studio as well. London Tonight will be hosted from the park each night and I expect ITV News probably will too.

Meanwhile NBC Universal are accepting they will probably make a loss on London 2012...
"We're not predicting that we will necessarily be profitable," Lazarus said of the London Games.
David Joyce, a media analyst with Miller Tabak & Co., has predicted that NBCUniversal could lose more than $100 million on the London Games.

    http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/envelope/cotown/la-et-ct-nbcuniversal-expects-to-lose-money-on-london-olympics--20120627,0,6530534.story
The NBC national network has sold $950 million in advertising for the London games, and Lazarus said those national ad sales could reach $1 billion. The comparable number for Beijing was $850 million. NBC-owned local stations are expected to generate an additional $150 million to $175 million in advertising for the London games. NBC paid about $1.2 billion for the rights to the 2012 Olympics, and coverage of them could cost $150 million to produce. Based on these numbers, that would mean a loss of about of $250 million.

The first teaser trailer for the BBC London 2012 coverage:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxqgiUh1Gbc

BBC News and Al Jazerra are broadcasting from flats which have been converted into studios here:

    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Dennison+Point,+newham&hl=en&ll=51.53985,-0.005479&spn=0.001812,0.005284&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=7.049238,21.643066&hnear=Dennison+Point,+London,+United+Kingdom&t=h&z=18&layer=c&cbll=51.53985,-0.005479&panoid=1ECCJ0-WR_TR7A5-XDYx-Q&cbp=12,108.47,,0,-22.52

BBC News Channel, BBC World and BBC News on BBC1 will all be hosted from these studios (with BBC World relocating for 30 minutes to allow BBC London to use their studio).

NBC will have two huge indoor studios in the IBC and an outdoor location, possibly for The Today Show in the park, at Park Live East.

The main BBC studios will be next to McDonalds at World Square, the other international broadcasters requiring their own studios closeby.

You mean on-screen graphics during events? If so they will probably look like this:

The studio's are just about anywhere, in some bizarre places!

I wonder whether the broadcasters' co-operate with each other, or whether there is some kind of first-come, first-served basis to fit everyone. Anyone know?

As far as I know each broadcaster is allocated space in the IBC. Then there is this core group of broadcasters who like to have these outside studios too - we saw them all in Beijing in that big studio tower...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Linglong_tower.jpg

Which had the Today Show at ground level, then studio space allocated to the BBC, CCTV (China), CBC (Canada), France Televisions (France), Azteca (Latin America), Televisa (Latin America). One of the pods was a VIP suite used for Government officials, some broadcasters shared pods (I believe the BBC shared with France Televisions. NBC opted for a studio at Tienanmen Square.

Not sure if it's decided by who pays the most money for the rights, or just who wants it, or who pays for the studio to be built?

You can see both studio blocks here:

    http://www.jasonhawkes.com/blog/360/June%202012%20A/virtualtour.html

The big blue block to the right of the stadium is where all the international broadcasters are. The BBC is in the smaller blue block further right, next to McDonalds.

I think the BBC has the poorer position really, I don't think they will be able to see the stadium, but I might be wrong.

It isn't in 'the smaller blue block'. That isn't a studio block. What you are looking at to the right is only a few of the(many) crates which will be used as the base under the 2 BBC studios (one of which is the 2010 flat pack World Cup studio). It will easily have a much better view of the stadium.

So which TV companies have responsibility for producing the feeds for each sport for OBS?

I believe the BBC has (or will probably be subcontracting) the rowing, tennis and some football?

It is difficult to tell without being able to zoom in.

We can see what the BBC studio block looks like here:

The surprising one for me in there is an Finnish company doing the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. But looking further into it they seem to be providing nearly all the stadium coverage, so it would make sense to keep that together. The BBC have been heavily involved though, they have produced the two short films which will be shown and they have been given a run-through of the whole show.

Some big challenges for international broadcasters in there. NOS are going to have some job on their hands doing the marathon.

Obviously French TV are busy with Le Tour, but thought that TVE's (Spain) experience of the Vuelta or RAI's (Italy) of the Giro would have seen one of those take the road cycling and Motorbike mounted TV camera events.

Nothing they haven't done dozens of times before.

Quite often at the Olympics you get broadcasters covering sports which they have no experience of: This year actually looks far more sensible than most, with the Scandinavians doing athletics, Cuban doing volleyball and Greeks doing weightlifting. The only stand-out odd one is the BBC doing boxing - a sport which very few current BBC staff will ever have done before.

RAI aren't the host broadcaster of the Giro - that's done by ASO (who also do the Tour de France, and the French classics).

...and I don't know who the host is of the Vuelta, but the coverage is pretty poor compared to the ASO cycling coverage.

The only thing I know about Fuji TV production of world feeds, is when they did the world feed for the Japanese Grand Prix. One thing you can expect is messed up audio, because they leave all microphones on all of the time.

Whilst BBC will be broadcasting the sports.
Will ITV/ITN from the above have four temporary studios on top of Westfield (will Channel 4/Five News use them?).
Have Sky News/Sports News revealed their studios or just be a reporter and a truck?
