Hello, Please could anyone comment on my choice of Freesat recorder. I intend buuying a HUMAX FoxSat-HDR Freesat HD Recorder - 500GB. Is this a good choice and is there anything that I should look out for.

Thanking one and all for any opinion in anticipation

I have the Humax 1TB FoxSat and before that I had a Humax Freeview pvr. I've found the Humax brand really good. They're easy to use and reliable. I think they're a good choice and I think most people that have got one would recommend them.
I've not used any other brand but chose Humax because it did everything I wanted and had a 2 year guarantee.
I shopped around and found the best deal was on e-bay from a top rated online shop...got it in a couple of days.

Look out for Raydon's modded firmware which expands the functionality in several directions.

I don't know if Humax have updated the box since I put a sledge-hammer through my infuriatingly slow and buggy box but it really comes down to your needs.
The Humax is a bit long-in-the-tooth technologically and the software has never utilised the hardware properly. However there are a number of potentially useful hacks around now.
If you just want a box to watch and record Freesat TV then my recommendation would be the Echostar HDS-600RS. The Echostar performs well, it is easy to use, it is responsive, Echostar fix bugs quickly and it provides Sling functionality as a bonus.
Even if you don't want the Sling function the Echostar is still a better machine for watching and recording TV in my opinion, but if you ever want to get your recordings off the box you'll have to go down the Humax route.

Badvok - I really hope that you are right regarding Humax speed, as their Freeview HD box is lightning fast and the Echostar is slower with 121/122 than it was at the start.

Many thanks to all who have responded, Rob.
