What is Virgin mobile like ?

A couple of my contracts are coming to a end. I would like to stay with Orange but have given up in them producing any decent data bundles . My other contract is with Vodafone and is great from a tariff point of view. I just cannot cope with their lousy 3G coverage.
I called Virgin mobile yesterday to ask about their new packages . I said I was not a customer of theirs however they offered me the One X on the Premier 08 plan with insurance for £46.00 pm. Now I know their coverage should be good using EE. But what is their .CS and billing like ? Do they make many mistakes and if so how good are they as sorting them out?

Sounds like poster is looking for a lot more than that.

Just left them for Orange as they didnt have the handset i wanted, though still have the wife's with them and she has just upgraded, about 20 pounds for 200 mins, 3000 txs 1gb data not had any problems with them, 3g ok, not had any other dealings except with retentions, even got my pac code with no problems. Though until recently they didnt really stock any of the high end handsets. And there new tarrifs are bit high for me. I expect though they are going to be hammered at the moment with arrival with 3 of the top handsets. Online account is basic but shows you everything you know. Their 14 days cancellation period is very good. I have used that once when i first joined them and didnt like the handset. They did a swap. or can return the phone, even with upgrades.

As with any network provider you can experiance bad service. However I always will allow them to try and sort out a problem first before ranting and raving.

They seem to be trying hard.

I've got two phones on VM and I know a few more people using them and no real problems regarding CS and billing. They do use a 0845 number but there is a normal number available if you check the web.

TBH, you can do most of the stuff from their website.

FYI you can ring Virgin Mobile for free of your handset on 789. You can also now get through to mobile free from your landline if you're a media customer by dialing 150.

When they get it right, they are very very good indeed. When they get it wrong however, they take incompetence to a whole new level.

Calls to 789 are free but they charge you 10p if you speak to a CS rep.
I believe calls to your answer-phone are also free.

Been with VM since day one, initially on their various PAYG deals, then contract and now a very good deal on one of their SIM only plans.

Never had an issue in terms of customer service, slightly longer to get through since they offshored but generally found them more than acceptable.

The only negatives about VM is the time they take to get new phones - they can often be 6 months behind the 'major' networks to get the very latest handsets. Never been an IPhone fan, so never bothered me that they've never (nor likely to) offered iPhones.

A lot of their staff post unofficially on www.cableforum.co.uk, as well as the internet and tv staff as well. They can often sort things out for you from there if you get any problems.

250 MB internet is not a lot when you got the likes of 02 offering 500 MB internet a month. Plus free wi-fi.
Unlimited text a month is good though.
I also think a nextwork with good nextwork coverage is also important. 02 had 98% UK coverage on 2g as do most over mobile networks buy 3g I think is a little lower for coverage. I have been 99% happy with 02 but if I had of knowen that HTC Desire would suffer from signal drop outs once in a while I may have picked another phone 9 months ago.
I do like the HTC Desire S but once in a while the signal drop outs can be a pain.

Ughhh nooooo. Im just out of 18 months of hell with them. The CS is sooo bad and if you get your phone stolen and get a police number the insurance still refuse you. Ive come out of my contract, my 2nd phone hasnt worked in months, no calls, theyve been advised and now im having debt collector letters!!
