Nintendo World Store: New York

Anyone been?

Came back from a week in NY recently and as I was near Rockefeller Centre I thought i'd go in and take a look as i've seen it on many blogs and press releases, and always wanted to go.

It's quite good actually. It's on two storeys, and whilst it's far from being a Nintendo megastore it has some good features. The ground floor has on the far wall an array on Wii/3DS games, and a little Pokemon lounge. I think the idea is that they organize Pokemon tournaments from time to time there, and people can go trade the Pokemon.

Upstairs there's flat screen TVs showcasing Nintendo games (they had on Mario Strikers Wii...probably because of the Euros) and 3DS display cases. They also set a bit of Merchandise here, and I bought a cool Zelda OOT T-shirt with artwork of grown up Link riding Epona. They also had a really cool Pikmin T-shirt. They also had stuff like plush toys, wallets, keychains.

The best bit is a little corner upstairs thats like a micro-museum. They have a glass case with all Nintendos consoles and peripherals through the ages (and to their credit they did have the stuff they'd prefer to forget in there like the Virtual Boy and Powerglove). Famously (as I had seen from other blogs and things) they have a frazzled Game Boy that somehow survived being caught in an explosion in the first Gulf War....and still works.

Theres also a wall cabinet with a lot of memorabilia and certificates from various franchises. They had a special gold limited Zelda edition GBA:SP signed by Miyamoto that I thought was cool.

All in all it's definitely worth a visit, my T-shirt cost me $21 which for central NY I thought was reasnoble. Again, it's not huge so don't expect it to be a Megastore (like some Nintendo equivalent of Hamley's). It's high time they had one of these in London I think
