ITV preparing for X Factor Axe

Looks like it will end at the end of the current contract.

So it looks like next year will definitely be the last, regardless of how many viewers will tune in this year.

This year I think it is important to take the show back to it's roots and not to take it down the trash TV route like they did last year.

So if The Voice can get through next year ratings-worry free it might be the only singing talent show on TV after all. Unless Fremantle want to bring back the Idol franchise.

You've got to remember this has come from the daily star... not exactly a reliable source

It's complete rubbish. ITV have said that in the absence of a big sporting event next year they have some extra money in their entertainment budget which they plan to use on making one large scale series with the values of X Factor/The Voice etc. They want indie's to pitch ideas for shows that would likely air next summer (between BGT and XF).

no way. x factor is much better than any other talent show on TV.

the voice will go first. strictly dancing - well what can i say?

BGT - very little talent!

There's absolutely no way ITV would get rid of X Factor. The only way this could be true is if Simon has told ITV that he's not interested in continuing the series after the contract is up. Which is possible, but I doubt he'd make that decision with two series left to go.

Well, we are talking about the end of 2013 when the contract with ITV ends if memory serves, I believe this would complete 9 years and 10 seasons. How many more years can it carry on?

Syco might look at who is left on their books ... Leona, One Direction, Rebecca Ferguson, Little Mix and pull out. Simon Cowell HAS mentioned thepossiblity of the end of the show and a plan for something to replace it.

I've heard they want a show where live bands audition...playing instruments type bands.

I'm not surprised. I think that photo of the judging panel says it all.

IMO the show should at least take a break after next year's 10th anniversary and return fresh.

I really wish they would, I know it wasn't the greatest when it was on before (2 years was it?), but I think if they could refresh it a bit and try to make it a more improved version of American Idol, I think it'd be a breath of fresh air.

I know the Voice is 'a singing competition' and all that, but I was watching American Idol and I miss the simplicity of the auditions in a room, and then going through different stages and playing to a VOICE rather than an 'act'.... (again I know that's what the voice is supposed to be about, but Idol was first ha)

I just hope they don't call it Pop Idol haha, I hated that name. At least American Idol sounds a bit better

Just depends on the ratings, really. There's some room to fall.

I'm sure they are working on new talent shows. Just as they have been for the past 8 years. And just as every other production company have been for years!

But he'll not pull X Factor off the air to take a swing at a new show. It's simply too valuable. Not to mention Sony would have something to say about it.

The show died when Cheryl got hitched and dropped US, and Dannii quit the show.

The majority of the public loved the louis, simon, dannii and cheryl panel because it just had some spark.

Tulisa, Gary and Kelly were garbage, but whoever they bring in it won't work because it will be compared to the S.L.D.C panel.

It's such a shame that Simon sold out and did the dirty on Dannii and Cheryl.

I guess both woman now have the last laugh

Simon has said he'd rather pull the plug rather than allow the show to "die of a thousand cuts". Ratings fell last year (through, in my opinion, poor acts)

As if! Other than the soaps TXF is the only thing that brings in big ratings. Last time the contract was up for renewal there were stories like this too, Cowell even said on Xtra Factor at that time 'IF we're still on the air next year we'll have a Girls Aloud theme one week'.. Cowell was being uncertain because he was holding out for a better contract. This is now ITV playing similar games.
