Yes, I still have a CRT telly.

I've got a DVD recorder, Sky + box, when I record from Sky + (analogue signal's been switched off) onto a DVD, there's a ghostly image of what's on screen in the background.

So for example, if it's a football match, there's a ghostly image of the scorebar floating across the screen.

There's one AV cable from the tv to the Sky+ box and one AV cable from the Sky+ box the DVD recorder.

The TV's only got one AV connector.

Should I just buy a new telly!

Sounds like video breakthrough.
Possible solutions here http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/scarts2.htm#vb

Your SCART lead is crap, replace it with a decent one - it doesn't have to be expensive, just properly screened. Or you can cut the un-needed wires out of the TV end of the SCART lead, as explained on Satcures site (and many others).

For an even simpler, and completely free 'solution', try swapping your two SCART leads over, that 'might' cure the problem.

I'm afraid your Sky+ box is haunted. In 1994, a score bar died horribly due to an industrial accident at Sky.

Within weeks, technicians were getting reports of ghostly score bars floating across people's screens. If you listen carefully, you can hear it moaning horribly, seeking vengeance on Rupert Murdoch for the cheapskate corner-cutting that led to the poor score bar's death.

Have you tried an exorcist? That worked for me.

suffered the same ghosting on tv (with just a video recorder at the time) many years ago, and didnt know what it was, and nobody could answer the question (no internet back then) and many people even claimed they couldnt see the effect. But yes, it turned out to be the Scart cable (and it wasnt cheap one either). Changed it over and problem cured.

Actually it was a cheap one - what you mean is you didn't pay a cheap price
