ALDI - supermarket of the year.
Apparently ALDI has been voted supermarket of the year by Which magazine.
http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/compan...12-06-29-12-00 Personally, I think this might be pushing it a bit but all supermarkets have their good and bad points. I tend to shop in a variety of different supermarkets, farmshops and markets but I do use ALDI quite frequently. What do you think? |

Not very impressed with ALDI, I just don't know how they've got a reputation for value for money, they pick a few items, price them aggressively, and rip you off on the brand names, while their own brands really arent that nice on the whole.
I had some ALDI rice last week, never again! |

I think the likes of Aldi and Lidl are going to become more popular because a lot of people haven't got the money to spend in the big supermarkets.
On the whole I think the quality of the food is pretty good and sometimes better if you're willing to try unknown brands. Also you're not paying for all the frills of the big names. I always buy things like milk out of Lidls as it's only a £1 for four pints and it lasts a long time. |

I had some ALDI rice last week, never again! As with all shops, pick and choose. I don't know of any supermarkets including waitrose and M&S where 100% of the products are market leaders |

I'm not surprised it's doing well when i first started going to aldi, i could walk round in peace now, i'm getting run over by little old biddies.
![]() I'd rather have Aldi than Tesco any day,veg is alot fresher, cheaper and lasts longer, cleaning products are fab, ice cream is Delicious too, i don't buy everything from there cause i like to buy from other shops in town. On the whole Aldi is a decent shop!! |

Family of six - all now classed as adults. Kids at home and in education, part time work or both.
We shop at Aldi. We also shop at Asda, Tesco and Sainsburys. The basics - stuff we we buy every week- works out lots cheaper at Aldi and the "own brands" like beans and cereals are much cheaper and of a high quality. The cleaning products if you get the "Aldi" ones are just as good and in some cases in my experience a wee bit better than the Brand Names. The naughty stuff, the treats, the bikkies and crisps are all great. £1.99 for 24 packets of crisps. For a small supermarket they have a fantastic range of cheese, cold meats, fresh fruit and veg. The frozen fish is really nice. Try the Basa and tuna. The Slavettes tell me the make up is really really good! Body and face creams all get the thumbs up too. Ladies toiletries have good scores from the 4 women in my household. My own experience of the sun lotions are at least 4 star. I could go on. I used to always shop in Safeways(R.I.P.) and now I guess I mostly shop in Aldi - I do have to venture to other supermarkets from time to time but Aldi works out as the best and most suited to my needs and my purse at the moment. A worthy winner of Which Supermarket of the Year in my opinion. |

My Asda's dearer than a £1 for milk unless it's on a special offer. Lidl's is always a £1.

trouble returning items
We had bought two battery driven pepper/salt grinders in March for a present in June. One did not work at all and the other was sluggish.
We took the units back to Aldi and were told incorrectly that they were "out of the 60 day return period". Twice I pointed out that they were being returned as defective and the store was responsible for a refund, (no replacement stock was available). The manager was reluctant to refund and asked us to call the helpline for advice. He was unable to provide the tel. no. so eventually got the refund. 20 minutes wasted in a very busy store. Do they not know the Sale of Goods Act rules?? J |

Friendly, not that faux stuff you get in most supermarkets, helpful etc. A couple of weeks ago OH did a bit of shopping for me and came home without the butter. He knew he'd bought it but must have left it on the counter. Cursing his own stupidity and not expecting anything from the store he went to buy some more the following day and mentioned it at the checkout and the girl said ' OK, I won't put these through the till'. |

Most supermarkets have their good and bad points.
The only supermarket I don't really enjoy is Tesco. I think they became complacent and it is now coming back to bite them on the bum. The quality of their fresh stuff is poor, their pricing and special offer structures never really make sense, the stores are often grotty and the staff are often non existent. Aldi and Lidl I quite enjoy. They're good when you're feeling a little short of cash, and the quality of their goods can be superior to those offered by the big brands and other supermarkets. I also like Lidl's "middle aisle" for all the random items they sell - fancy a power drill one week, or a bathroom cabinet and a pair of hiking boots? Go and have a look! ![]() I also quite like Waitrose (we have a big Waitrose delivery once a month) as their own brand stuff is good, the prices are reasonable and delivery is free if you spend over £50. |

Aldi is OK for some things, but I like Waitrose & M&S for the quality & choice.

Over the past 6 months Aldi has become my supermarket of choice. Great, helpful service, I'm in and out in record time and constantly amazed at how little I spend!
My former choice was Tesco, but poor quality vegetables and fruit, combined with appalling customer service have ensured that I will never shop there again |

Don't know what he was doing - checking stock levels? viewing CCTV?. Anyway, he came back a couple of minutes later with a refund form for me to sign and put the money back on my card. It was excellent service. |

I shop at Aldi a lot, but you have to know what products are good, and which ones aren't.

I prefer Lidl as I like their German products.
InterestIng discussion about the price of milk. No wonder our dairy industry is going down the pan, with everyone obsessed with getting the cheapest milk possible. I'm glad to say I still support the local milk round. |

My nearest shop is an Aldi, so obviously when it opened I investigated it pretty thoroughly. I like it for most stuff and got my microwave, toasted sandwich maker, deep fat fryer, computer printer, and electric can-opener there. I also bought a PVR several years ago which never worked properly, but when I took it back they gave me an immediate cash refund, so fair enough.
Terrific for most stuff; their vegetables seem to have a shorter shelf-life than the big supermarkets but as I'm nearby that's not an issue for me. Good to subscribe to their emails for notification of their Sunday and Thursday bargains / specials / new products etc. |
