How long is it ? What's the format ? If 1080i then you can use a standard DVD burner to burn up to about 30 minutes to normal DVD blanks using AVCHD format. You need a blu-ray player (or a PS3) to play back.

1080p50/60 is much harder to deal with.

MedianInfo (free) will tell you what the files are if you aren't sure.

Read this thread where a cheap Freeview pvr will play back HD camcorder footage in HD (I provided the test movie).

Thanks Graham, I downloaded the software but unable so far to use it properly, I Know I can burn it in SD for now anyway and later do a Hd version once I know what to do.
Clicking on properties/info it comes up with this:

AVI file
File size, 3.02 G
Resolution, 1440 x 1080 sorry no letter after this

It's just over 30 mins long
I remember when I first got the thing it mentioned something like 'Codec' file system or something like that.
Really what I need is something idiot proof!

Thanks again

Install Medianinfo and open the file. Select the Tree view and export to a text file. Post the text.

What created the file ? HDV tape based camcorders create HD .AVI files.

Which software ?.

Have you got any form of blu-ray player ? If so you might just as well keep the content in HD.

If not the file will need conversion to either 720 x 576 25fps or 720 x 480 29.97 depending on the frame rate it was created at and compressed using mpeg2 and burnt to DVD.

Try DVDflick, if it will open the .avi it should create a DVD for you.

Just checked the camera settingd and the choice of settings are:

QVGA, WVGA, 720p, 1080p

I don't have a Blu-ray player,

Software: not sure about that as I can't find the instructions but the software that handles the files on the PC is called,
Arcsoft media.

Sorry 'export to a text file' I don't know what this means, no matter what I do I can't seem to get a file from the camera file to the mediainfo or vice versa!

As the saying goes 'a little about a lot'

Need more info.

Does your camera have a usb port or a flash memory card. When you connect the camera or the card to a PC does it appear as device in Windows Explorer. When you open the device can you find the video files. They will have a file extension of something like .ts, .mts or .avi.

If so simply open a second explorer window and create a folder on your PC. Select all the clips on the camera and drag them to the folder you created on your PC.

Use the PC folder as the source for DVDflick

Thanks Graham, I managed to locate/create a path to the video clips and transfer to DVDflick, stumbling at this point not sure what format to select, when I added a file it show's
(3GP - 3GP *.3gp) it's second choice in the drop box.

Does your camera have a usb port or a flash memory card?

It has a SD card and a USB port to connect to the PC if I understand what you mean.

When you connect the camera or the card to a PC does it appear as device in Windows Explorer

I just plugged it in and can't any trace of what you describe

When you open the device can you find the video files.

Yes, they appear in the cam software on the PC, if thats what you mean

Use the PC folder as the source for DVDflick

It now does this

Thanks again, Going to Watch The Living dead, a bit like my head just now
