SSD install disables HDD

Hi guys,

Been trying to solve this since this morning, and not getting anywhere.

I have bought a Crucial CT064M4SSD2BAA 64GB M4 SSD to put some games and other applications on it, but not Windows.

My motherboard is a Asus P6T SE.

I have also bought a Asus U3S6 card and installed it into my motherboard with no problems; I have installed it into a spare PCIe x16 slot on the motherboard. I have installed all the latest drivers in Win 7 64 bit and its working fine and detected in windows with no problems.

I also bought a Crucial SSD 64GB drive, and slotted it into a spare bay on my case, and plugged one end of the SATA cable into the SSD, and the other end into the Asus U3S6 card. I hooked up the SATA power cable to the SSD.

Now my problem is that when I start the PC, my BIOS seems to disable my HDD which has Windows 7 on it and it does not even seem to appear in the "boot list" in the BIOS...This means that I cannot get Windows 7 to load..

My SSD and my CD drives are recognised in the BIOS, but not my HDD.

When I disconnect the SATA cables from the SSD and fire up the PC, my HDD works as normal as Windows 7 loads fine.

I obviously seemed to have the wrong setting somewhere in the BIOS, (I think), but i have no idea what it could be!

Any help is much appreciated.

Many thanks!

Have you tried swapping the drive's SATA port connections?

Buying an SSD and not putting Windows on it is madness. Why did you need the controller card? There are 6 SATA headers on your motherboard although the slightly slower versions.
What happens if you plug the SSD straight to the motherboard?

Hi,

Thanks for your replies.

Well after deciding not to install Win7 onto the SSD, (just because it seemed like too much hassle!), I have just done it now and it all seems to be working fine, (SSD connected to the Asus U3S6).
Cant believe the speed of which Win7 installed onto the SSD...max 10 mins i think!

Once I have installed all the drivers and all that, I'll just use the 2 HD's I have as storage and reconnect them up, and I am hoping that it is just a matter of setting the correct boot priority in the BIOS to ensure that it boots from the SSD and not the HDD's, (as they use the SATA 1 and 2 ports on the motherboard).

You were crazy to not even consider putting your OS on the fastest drive! What on earth were you thinking?
