X Factor Winners - Where are they now?

What are the previous winners of the X Factor up to?

Are any of them bar Leona Lewis still having any form of recording success?

I know Alexandra Burke's latest album has left the chart having sold 10,000 copies and Matt Cardle is playing gigs in barns - but what about the others?

Shayne Ward is the lead in the Westend's Rock Of Ages (playing Tom Cruise's part), and Joe McElderry is recording his 4th album.

We have had numerous threads like this - why didn't the OP have a look at one of those?

I'm sure all the previous winners have websites. But off the top of my head: Steve rants on twitter and still plays coffee houses and jazz clubs with his partner, Shayne: Rock of Ages, Leona about to release a new album, Leon plays live in small venues, Alexandra (no comment), Joe about to release his 4th album, Matt: dunno, Lttle MIx are about to launch a new single/album.

At least Alex has a recording contract, unlike Matt and Steve!

UK and US ones at that. She's talented, so I have a feeling she'll easily pick herself up and get back to the top.

Matt played the Garden Stage at the Isle of Wight Festival last weekend. Was well received I believe.

Just to put it into context my 17 year old grandson and his band mates played the Main Stage on the same day! They won Wight Noize to do this.

To answer the OP, Joe is releasing his fourth album on 17 September (some co-written songs and one written solely by Joe himself). He also had an album last year which got to No.2 and stayed in the chart for a considerable time.

She won't have one much longer. She's treading on very thin ice with appalling sales.

Ok. Name me an X Factor contestant with such a disastrous number if sales for a second or third album which still has a contract?

She had a record breaking first album campaign, so even if she did get dropped from this contract she could easily secure another one. Her debut was second only to Leona for X Factor winners, and even now she still holds European chart records. One flop will not finish her off, she's not the type to give up. There's no doubt she is talented. She just needs even better material.

I agree, she's a major talent. Most of the songs on the new album weren't all that compelling for me, but I'm far from having written her off and I'm sure many in the music business feel the same way. She got off to a strong start, as you say. I think she can surpass the success of the first album with the right songs and sound.

Alexandra will be fine, if Joe & Shayne can go onto do other things and have success, I'm sure she can too. I'm intrigued to know what's going behind the scenes in her camp right now though.

There was a good episode of Episodes the other night. Did anyone see it? It's a sitcom/drama about the US TV industry.

In it a show was being canned. One of the producers was pleading with the exec not to pull it.

"Please! We used to be number one! You supported us three years ago when we were number one!"

"That was three years ago when you were number one ... "

It was really good. You learn a lot.

It goes hand in hand with that quote "You're only as big as your last hit"..

Is it the new one from hbO? I forget it's name, but this sounds like it.

I think asking where are the runner up's should give an interesting comparison.

Well G4 had lots of success and then it all ended a few years ago. Andy tried for Eurovision but failed. Ray Quinn is doing musicals.Rhydian released three solo albums with varying success. JLS are on there fourth album, all previous three have gone platinum and there tours have been sell outs. Same difference just launched a pop academy. Diana is about to release more music indepedently. Olly Murs well 2 No.1 albums, USA and presenting gigs and sold out arena tour. Cher Lloyd and 1D are taking over the USA having huge success especially 1D. Rebecca Fergusons album has sold double the winners and she is now in the states. Oh and Marcus failed. Jedward are taking over Europe. Stacey Solomon has an Iceland deal for adverts worth quite abit and has done abit of presenting and singing recently.

The comparison?
Steve rants on twitter and plays Pizza huts. Shayne got dropped and is now doing Rock of Ages. Leona has been waiting for three years to release her album and is releasing this year to questionable success. Leon got dropped ages, we have heard nothing musically since just a few very small venues live gigs. Alexandra was very successful up to now but it's all gone down hill this year. Joe well got dropped are released two novelty albums that sold about 140k-200k each. Matt just recently got dropped and is looking for a new deal.

Erm quite the difference eh!?

You know if I was really pedantic I would say Olly has 'only' had one #1 album not two.

But I'm not, so I wont.

I'll rephrase!

Two double platinum albums, 3 number 1 singles, 2 million record sales

JLS, Olly, Jedward are big successes !
