I do hope so. Anon and those who've come forward have imo made a vital difference in dispelling the old 'they're just a bunch of harmless nutters' myth.

Absolutely.

If anyone reading this thread is still in any doubt as to the true nature of this horrific organisation let me direct you to a posting made by a former member of the cult outlining 'Musical Chairs' scientology style. Please bear in mind when reading this that 'COB' stands for Chairman of the Board or David Miscavige, the best man at Tom Cruise's wedding to Katie.

This is just one of MANY examples of abuse perpetrated by this joke of a 'religion' but it was the one that really opened my eyes to how crazy it was inside. Anyone imagine the Archbishop of Canterbury or the Pope playing this game?

The musical chairs story was later confirmed by other people who were there. The man who made that post is Marc Headley, who wrote a book about his experience called 'Blown For Good', you can find it on Amazon.

This video was taken in a Texas courtroom in February, where Debbie Cook spoke under oath about the way she was treated by David Miscavige.

I've heard her talking about all that in another video where she got interviewed for a TV channel. That cult sounds REALLY bad news, really bad news indeed!

Did you hear the latest? She agreed to sign another confidentiality agreement and claimed no money changed hands.

In totally unrelated news, she and her husband have suddenly moved to a Caribbean island.

I found the following video interesting

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntpQH...eature=related

Some one secretly filmed a stress test/analysis.

If this is how someone is introduced to CoS I really cannot see why they would want to follow it up...the man talks a load of rubbish and it seems obvious that he is trying to put words into the girls mouth (I think she deflects him very well).

Either the man was having a bad day though or he needs sacking as a stress tester/analysist, he was totally rubbish.
To be fair to the old guy, the girl had gone in there with the intention of catching him out. What problem does death solve? Is a coaching tool to get to the nature of your problems. I'm not defending Scientology, but usually at the lower end of an organization like this, and even as you rise through the ranks, you have sincere, dedicated people wanting to do good for themselves and others. That's the hook. The unfortunate thing in any organization is that there is always corruption and David Misgavige comes across as a control freak as corrupt as Ron L Hubbard himself.

After watching this, I'm left wondering...how mad do you have to be to get sectioned in the USA? The man is delusional...and Scientology a cult started by a SYFI writer to make money is simply crazy! It can't be called a religion as it has no diety (God) and should be closed down!

And yet, ignorant people choose to condemn all religions in the same breath, when half the time the things they're condemning aren't religions (it's an abused term) at all, and they don't know the ins and outs of those that are! I suggest these people take a leaf out of my more considered agnostic/atheist friends, and actually find out what they're talking about before they comment!
I couldn't agree more.

They didn't even consider themselves a religion in the early days but suddenly realised they could get tax free status if they told everyone that's what they were. As you say, anyone who gets involved in Scientology isn't playing with a full deck.

Another example of their scary tactics (from this week's Popbitch mailout):

Quote:
A LA paparazzo tells of the time they were assigned to do a job outside the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre.

They were sitting in their car, in the busy street outside, when a girl came out of the centre with a bunch of leaflets in her hand. She walked up and down the street putting a leaflet on every windscreen. Finally she got to the pap's car, slapped one on his car and went back inside.

He jumped out and read the leaflet. It was a photo of him, with a reference to him being a paedophile.

In a panic he ran up the street, ripping them off every car... only to find that - except for the one on his car - they were all completely blank.

He considered himself warned off.
Scary scary scary

Having read up on Scientology the past few days since I last posted, I'm even more astounded how anyone can honestly believe this crap. Many people find proper religions hard to believe, but surely anyone past believing Star Trek was true...ie: 9-10 yr olds...must surely see how absolutely unbelievable this is. Reptiles turned into humans? Bodies thrown into volcanos and coming out as spiritual beings who got captured and put into the bodies of humans. And now the whole world population are aliens unless they go through auditing and get clean. Scientologists are immortal??? So where's Hubbart? Has he returned yet? OMG I feel such an idiot even writing this crap. No wonder they hate psychiatrists...they know every single psychiatrist on Earth would section them lol.

having had a good week or so to look into it, I think I now have basic understanding, which is:
you pay them to tell them all your deepest, darkest secrets and are then forever in their clutch, seems like the gist of it to me. They know all your dirty laundry and you can never leave. What I still don't understand is how supposedly powerful people, who you'd think were clever/astute would ever think 'wow what a great idea' bonkers
