There's a fruit called 'guave de sin' which translates chinese guava, it tastes amazing. Only ever had it in Mauritius. There's loads of other fruits there of which I don't know the English names to.
chinese guava Also there's longan (dragon eye), which tastes similar to lychees but has a smooth outer skin. They can be found in chinese shops. Starfruit (carambole), which can be found in asian shops. Bilimbi bilimbi - usually made into a compote for snacking. Very sour otherwise. |

Rambutan Custard Apple Dragon Fruit Guava Giant papaya Physalis ..off the top of my head. Custard apple is stunningly delicious IMO! I haven't found them in my local Tesco for a few years now tho' ( Swansea). ![]() While not a fruit in one sense I'm waiting for 'Jack fruit' to come in to my local Asian store - I believe the flesh is good to use as a meat substitute in curries etc. I know they sell the seeds but I'm not sure how to cook them to suit a vegetarian. Anyone know, please? |
